ORIGINAL: pdarg

I downloaded this last night, and have been working with it. It's unique, and I think it sounds pretty good - maybe even good enough to replace some of my older mastering plugs.

I like the free beta version, but I would be willing to pay a bit for something with more features, etc. Although, as it stands the free version is quite a deal :)

If you want to move these, I would suggest a price in the neighborhood of about $99-$129.

My advice - contrary to most views - is to not sacrifice quality in exchange for conserving CPU demands. The problem with most effects is that they - technically - perform the way they are supposed to, but not at a quality level that rivals the hardware. Keep the quality and advertise it as a special intensive plug that needs to be used alone or just in mastering.

Thanks pdarg! I think I will probably price it lower than that (more in line with other Synthedit releases), but its good to know you think its worth that much.. :)

As far as quality goes, I agree with you 100%! Fortunately the cpu savings have been achieved not by dropping quality, but by replacing the bits of filter code I wrote for the original with highly optimised modules created specifically for this project by David Haupt (one of Synthedit's best module devs). I am a musician and sound engineer, not a c++ developer, so my code is self-taught and rather basic: it does the job, but I don't know the speed tricks! Dave is a bit of a whizz though, so his version does the same job as mine but with doubles instead of floats (64 bit instead of 32) and still manages to run faster!

I have also found the peak sensing mode to be more useful than RMS since I added it.. (its good to have the choice though! ;)) overall, I would say IQ4pro sounds a lot better than IQ4gui..

Oh . . . and as long as I have your attention:

-Fix the numeric displays to change even when audio is not playing through the plug-in, and also allow a double-click to enter precise numerical data.

-Also, run the range of the high shelf up to 20k, not 14k. You might not think that many would work with that range - but you would be surprised.

-Any chance you would be interested in developing an audio harmonizer plug-in?

Already done! Should have mentioned it in the list..

Was it only 14K on the old one? 18KHz maximum on my current version.. would be fairly easy to up it to 20 if you want..

20k seems to be the ceiling for most of these types of plug-ins - its sometimes helpful to have that high point so one can create gently sloped roll-offs in the high frequencies.

Also, do you have a website where this is going to be sold?

not yet. I need to learn how to make one, or persuade someone to do it for me.. Its something I am a lot less enthusiastic about than actually designing and using the plug.. like writing the manual! It would all happen much quicker if I didn't have to earn a living..
