Is this for Platinum version only?
I have Artist, new Home Studio, and Music Creator 7.
I do have Groove 3 membership (to get to still) but wondering how this may fit in my Sonar learning curve.
Sounds like, it may be more advanced stuff.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your interest, here's the link to the Table of Contents.

I haven't really broken down how much is for Platinum vs. other versions, but I think you'll find the majority of the tips relate to all SONAR versions...I tried to make it as general-purpose as possible, although there are some aspects that don't relate to Artist (for example the chapter on Aux Tracks techniques; then again, it's a short chapter). I'm not very familiar with Music Creator 7, however I don't think there's much that specifically relates to it in the book.

I hope Craig realises the awe, respect and gratitude we in the Sonar community feel, not just for his superb technical insight but also for the generosity with which he shares his knowledge.

BUT it was worth it, I truly appreciate everyone's support...especially because this is somewhat of a proof of concept. I did this on my own time because it didn't seem right to have Gibson pay me to do something for Cakewalk. I'm not taking any royalties, because that lowers the price and I wanted this to be affordable to the community. But if it does well, then I could justify taking the time to do more - like something about mastering in SONAR, or mixing techniques. We'll see what happens, but I am both grateful for and humbled by the response so far. You've made my day.

I was up to 15 FTotW Word docx files when this showed up. Purchased and downloaded immediately. Why? Because you took the time to incorporate the useful feedback into the tip itself! The idea of going back and editing a Word file each time you or another forum member would post a useful tidbit seems mind-numbing. $15 to save me from that? Easy decision. Heck, the organization alone is worth the $15.

The highlighted section in your response is the reason I renamed the download:

Just picked this up.  Great work Craig!  This will be very handy.  Especially with the searchable PDF format.  Now I can finally delete all of those bookmarked forum posts

This should nicely fill the gaps that are left between the user manual, and the Sonar Power books. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but this is some real practical how-to get it done advice!

Scored a copy. I also came here to give my gratitude to Craig Anderton for his endless patience and compassion when helping forum participants, and for bringing out the best in the Cakewalk community. He is like that popular kid in high school who got along with everybody, even the dorks.

Likewise here. Banging out Like a Rolling Stone on an acoustic guitar while doing the harmonica thing gave me an advantage I hadn't been accustomed to. I cringe to think of it now, but I could pull it off back then.

Something missing is the integration into the SONAR menu. While it cannot be directly added to help, it can be added to the Utility menu either by a registry entry or the SONARToolsEditor (available from the SONAR Resources and Utilities page). Here is an example using the pdf from my documents directory and the S in SONAR Tips for the accelerator key in 64bit SONAR:

Expect a warning because the file has a pdf extension. This should be OK as long as pdf files have a default run action (usually they automatically open into a pdf reader).

For the adventurous, here is the export of my registry entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\SONAR Tips]
"Type"="Generic"
"ExePath"="C:\\Users\\Steve Cook\\Documents\\The Big Book of SONAR Tips.pdf"
"MenuText"="&SONAR Tips"

Of course the actual path to the pdf will have to be altered for your installation.

I must say, I'm surprised. There is a lot of stuff in this book that I have never seen before.
While some of the tips I am familiar with, Some of the content is brand new.
Im trying my best not to sound like a homer, there has to be something I can critique here.
But so far I got nothing, its brilliant.

I just found a neat way to use Craig's Big Book of Tips. Because I have a neat laptop on my desk next to my desktop when I am freezing BFD3 drums I open it up and start reading. I will do the same with Kontakt too.

Just had an idea Craig.... Maybe this exists already in upper Sonar versions, but in my new Sonar Home Studio, I love the Help Module (window) idea, with keyboard shortcuts..... is very helpful for learning! I'd love to see ability to have that same Help Module Window be the default display zone for both, Help documentation files and Big Book Tips!!! Right!? How cool would that be? I mean, all contained within the work-space so no need to toggle between Sonar and a Browser when seeking knowledge or trying a new trick......
If that doesn't seem like asking too much, maybe this will....... When Hovering over items, in addition to main info and any shortcuts listed in Help Module, how about links to official documentation that are related? :) Could even be supercake like and also list any Big Book relation links too!!!!!
I'm sure this will get a raised eyebrow, a frown, or a lightbulb fiesta! lol
Cheers!

Didn't mean to come off like asking a stupid question previously, but what I should have said originally was, "I am currently using the New Sonar Home Studio and am not sure how it fits into the Big Book of Sonar Tips (being a new and lower line Sonar product)". Ah, like I said above, I got it anyway, looks great..... :) thanks
