Nice one James Sister Sisters meets Distant Towers via Parliament..a heady brew, but I liked it a lot.

James

Dreadful, pompish, and burning the flags I thought were holy.

Easily my fav of yours to date; I'd love you to share more of what you did here (tho I suppose you shared a lot)

Guitars are an astonishing touch.  This is so wild and excellent on so many levels, I can't begin to comment.

TBH (no offense to you and others), this out-classes and out-performs anything my ears have heard the last few months ... even if I can't remember lyrics.  There is that majestic Yoyo pomp I'm so glad to hear and emulate.

Oh yeah, now I remember the lyrics of that heretic-Hendrix' protest ... "for love" -- haha!  This is Hendrix and the Cowsills on steroids ... leaving them to beaver (if you will).

Frankly, I'd expect this one to be most utterly long-lived, to be cherished by many, etc. ... on 1st listen.

Again, this is easily my fav of yours (and the forum's) to date, but (the crybaby I am) I shall hope for better/nobler things to come.

You captured the sound of that era, J-YoYo.  Ha, I REALLY like this one.  Fun to listen to though the message is a bit dark ( not depression dark) in places.  But the darkness was exposed to the light after enough of these type of songs were written.  What an arrangement!!

Well written, great stylized vocals, awesome musicianship and ALWAYS original, however I think the music lacks some punch on the drums (the snare lacks snap and is buried a bit in the mix, the kick hasn't got even a hint of thump) and overall separation on the musical mix needs to be better. The song has decent dynamics but a little more overall presence could make this good song great.

I was just thinkin the other day about what the Yeoman was up to. Funky song. Made me smile. Actually, I think you really achieved the Hendrix feel with the g solos. Seriously. I loved the shala's going into the change at 1:54. That's my favorite part.

That's really great.  I get an early Zappa vibe from it.  Performance and production are top shelf.

Almost all the guitars and bass were recorded dry and then run thru POD Farm2.  Not a lot of eq as I wanted to get that period sound, and keep everything glued together, even if it gave it a bit of hair. I did my standard NY Compression trick, sending all drums to its own bus, applying a lot of compression there, but also sending the snare directly to the master in addition for some pop. Keys are some low CPU-using SampleTank2 patch. I am amazed how well a lot of that synth's patches sit in mixes, although they don't sound great alone by themselves.

Just goes to show ya: it is a wonderful thing to take on the guise of a song. I remain an ardent supporter of stopping communism's march, as it has produced more human misery than anything in history, and had I been more aware at the time, would have supported the purpose of the Vietnam War. Though the feckless, weak manner that Johnson prosecuted that war is perhaps the biggest tragedy of them all. If you look at it with some objectivity, the protests were really against the draft, not really the war. Once the draft ended, no one gave a siht about atrocities in SE Asia. Kinda like rendition, waterboarding, CIA prisons, drone killings: once they were no longer a cudgel to bash Bush, the protesters, for the most part, stopped caring about it.

Anyhoo, glad you dug it!

That was done with intention, Tony. I was going for that 1970 sound, and the drums were indeed pretty buried back then in favor of the guitar. And not a lot of kick thump back in the day, no?

Not a lot of thump but a little more than none my brother, specifically with the funkier tracks of that era. I have no doubt that it was intentional as I've always been amazed, and impressed with you work ( I wish I had such musicianship) but take a listen to the best tracks of that era , funk or rock, and you'll see there was always SOME beef in the low end.

I'm not gonna say it sounds like this band or that band....

I'm just gonna say two things:

1. Awesome song and performances!

2. When are you gonna learn how to mix?

Great song, I really liked the guitars, especially that break around 1:12

Also really love how you get everything to just fit in the mix.  The only downside is it reminds me that my mixes still sound like Sh!t, lol

Thanks for sharing !

That's great!  I love those drums - all the ghosted snare stuff sounds really good.  And the wah wah on the guitar.  The vocals seem to bring in a touch of Zappa too.  Listening on my brand new k240 cans.  Sounds really good.

You pretty fly for a white guy. Tongue in cheek funky and funny, very slinky lead guitar. very Sly (as in Stone) bgv. The wah rhythm guitar suggests your Papa must have been a rollin' stone. Very cool tune.

Very cool and funky vibe, James!  I love the part leading up to and including the breakdown.  I definitely agree with the Parliament comments.

Wow - what a huge undertaking.

As far as I can tell you've accomplished your goal.

Great energy... I love the little laugh in V1!

This is one of those tunes that deserves to be 'out there'...

Just really great... No nits from me... amazing really!

Peace,

Ian
