Famous Forum Funnybones...

OK, it's drivin me nuts...I'm trying to remember the trolls name who would just post non sequitur audio jabber in response to every post.  And that got me to trying to remember famous wiseacres from times gone by.  Who wants to start?

PS: I don't count.

PPS: I think he was trying to pass himself off as Asian.

There was that guy who had the squashed tramp avatar with the words 'Transient Shaper' on it.

I can't remember his nick but some of his responses were quite witty, sometimes it would just be a picture without a caption but it would say it all.

We've had a fertile selection that would fit your description for sure.

    Hail, I'd probably fit too.

I think I know who you mean but I can't remember the name either.

Funny thing though as sometimes a name of one of the guys from the old NG will pop up in my head, out of nowhere, like Bob Beals or Kraig Olmstead...

Maybe you're thinking of reader1? His forte was writing sentences no one could decipher. But I gave him the benefit of doubt and assumed he was not a native English speaker.

Or maybe Resonant Serpent? He gave us this memorable line, which made its way into at least one forum regular's sig:

...this may be the point where the ancient guitar-slinging primates get off the boat, and they'll be replaced by a new generation of users.

How about Crush? He'd duplicate each DAW complaint on the Presonus and Reaper forums, just changing the name of the DAW.

As you know, I collect these gems as a hobby (cheaper than snowglobes) and I've got a zillion of 'em.

    Some are wonderfully profound:
"Our tools don't adapt to our demands.  I've been having this argument with my guitar for about fifty years." (Clint Swank).

Or maybe "Can you drag and drop your unending sadness into a project and then delete it?" (although the OP has already exempted himself from quotation).

But the three individuals listed at the top are the repeat offenders. At least, I assume they're three different people.

But my collection is not complete. I do not save the merely rude posts, so no Sherriff or DKFH. I also don't save any that were meant to be serious but only revealed a profound ignorance of the subject, so no {redacted} or {redacted}. Only when they cross over into blatantly rude arrogance do they make my collection, e.g. "I'm not interested in joining a scientific debate of the ins and outs of digital audio.  ...Ultimately, facts don't matter." Those are words to live by.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

That one crosses the divide of being so completely wrong and yet so full of truth.

It's a good one for any collection as a reminder that sometimes we need to be reminded in order to remember, if nothing else.

Whilst perhaps predictably eventually hounded out of town for the evergreen internet offence of being a bloke masquerading as a 'woman'.

I actually found the portrayal of a fictional jaded starlet with a real name, brittle and neurotic, the disaffected and substance aided character was well-observed, intelligent in outlook and somewhat intriguing in itself.  I always felt it (the character) was a flavourful addition to the broth.

I think sometimes there is too much eagerness to spoil a good game for the sake of reality.  After all there are plenty representing themselves as greater characters than their own hearts are telling them is true.

I always found those threads bordering on the bizarre and I honestly thought at the time there were some forum members who thought he was actually the character he was pretending to be.
