Fantom VS not present
So I did the clean install of 7 64 bit and installed the Sonar 8.5.3 32 bit. 1.0 drivers so far. Console works fine but I can't seem to open the Fantom VS. It isn't listed with the softsynths. It does show in the synth rack but I can't turn it on. Anyone experience that? I'm sure the mind fog has made me overlook something simple but... Thanks WSS

Hmm... I'm on 64 bit and done all the 'patches' etc and basically gave the Fantom up as a bad joke of poor implementation after a while. Moved on after several forehead bruising incidents, but there may actually be a way... however, until Fantom actually is 64bit ready, I don't know why it gets mentioned in the same conversations... unless you like trying to make things work instead of making music. Happy hunting though!

Hiya Mully. Yeah well I finally got the Fantom recognized. Went back to the disk and installed then ran the VST scan from Options Global. But now I get the error message "unable to read write data" and it seems I had that when I first set this up last year. I've only checked the VS Midi I.O Console and Fantom. Still it's the 32 bit Sonar and Fantom. The TSS sounds but not the Fantom..... Cheerio. WSS

I don't know why you are having such a problem with the Fantom. It's 32 bit so you need to run 32 bit Sonar in X64 Win 7. The cannot read-write message is usually due to the Fantom and controllers/surfaces not being set up properly. In addition you have to make sure all your inputs are correct per instrument-input source. Have you loaded the ins. definition for the Fantom? I don't use X64 so perhaps it's a problem there. But if you've set up the Fantom, controllers/surfaces, inputs on your tracks, and the right drivers, you should be getting all 16 channels of the fantom. Can you list all those parameters?

Well actually one reference point I used was your post from way back on the subject. Not sure what I'd changed but things seem to be OK in newer projects now so... Nothing seemed amiss but maybe the gremlin has moved on. I'm sure that amidst the brain fog of the Windows installation (turned into a many hour ordeal thanks to an apparent but invisible speck of dust on the installation disk) I did something out of order. Cheers and thanks! WSS

Yeah I'm very sure with a 32 bit Sonar install under a 64bit Windows OS Fantom will be fine but for me, I'm not interested in another instance of Sonar. I don't want a foot in both camps... just means that 'Sonar' as a platform is not really fully 64bit really, otherwise we wouldn't have to install both versions to get everything to work doesn't it? Bizarre... Just have to live without Fantom. The only disappointment was having it in the hardware, but unusable... unless of course you want a foot in both camps... not keen and realistically, why bother going down the 64 bit path in that case? Be nice if Cake would tell us (I might have missed it?) if Fantom will be redone for 64bit... if the answer is no, then the 700R owners have a genuine gripe I think given the whole 64bit promoted facet of Sonar... but not looking for a sook fest. Anyways.... cheers!

Hey Steve your post got me curious so I tried one last time... End result... I have Fantom working under 64bit. No editor control but the thing I had missed was setting up Direct Monitoring... that got it working. Scott's ebook too has a template download that was worth grabbing as it is a quick way of seeing how to access the patches. Anyway, it has been a battle but good to know it can work. Thanks for your last post Steve, it motivated me to try one more time. Cheers!

I just upgraded to 64 bit Win 7 and Sonar 8.5.3 PE, I'm dealing with the problem now. Things have changed since this thread ran. I'm having some problems getting it to work in 64 bit even after all the firmware updates and new 64 bit Fantom VS Installer. Any new developments? I loaded a new project inserted the Fantom VS and the Editor loaded with all the menus and worked. I then deleted the Fantom and loaded Fantom VS #2, the Editor loaded with no patchs in the channels and the drop down lists were all GM items. I deleted the synth and closed the project. I deleted Fantom #2 from the file directory-VST Plugins and it vanished from the plugin manager also. I opened my older project again, deleted the Fantom from that project and inserted a new Fantom VS in which I rebuilt my prior instruments and settings. I saved the project, closed it, re-opened it and all the patchs and settings were retained. So that's workable now. The 64 bit Fantom Editor loads differently than the 32 bit did. X-ray doesn't work with it, when I first open the project with the Editor open, I can play notes and do adjustments, if I minimize the Editor and open it again, I get no sound while it is open, and when I minimize it, all the notes I tried to play while it was open, are suddenly released and sounded. Some kind glitch going on there. See the Update Path Thread.
