The plugins VX 64 and PX 64 are great. I also like the grid being either in front or behind as desired. I really like the now time being dragable in playback. The media explorer seems much better too.

Since I've not delved yet (only loaded and played a few projects) I like that the pause button is now in the standard transport controls (no need for large transport specifically on the laptop). I think I'll like the bitbridge and jbridge support when I'm 64 (bit, that is).

I don't have yet......I think I'm going to wait a while. But DAMN! When I saw the Matrix view...well no need to use Ableton or P5 anymore. And now don't need to wonder when 64-bit rewire will be supported, Sonar has it all! (By the way, I think the upgrade should be free IF you have registered latest version of Project 5 AND Sonar 8.3.1.......just because the cake told the P5 users Sonar will be the replacement....but soory this ain't the place for that!) +1 for Matrix view!!

Even though I'm disappointed at the inability to be triggered, internally, from a recorded MIDI track, I'm impressed with the Matrix View.

Now I'm beginning to see into the nooks and crannys. That VX64 vocal strip was worth the price of admission. I just checked it out. My first gut reaction was - oh no not another compressor. That's not what this is at all. Deesser, doubler, compander, tube equalizer and delay all in one neat little package. That doubler is pretty cool. I have the Avox DUO plug-in and this thing is very similar in quality. I see I'm gonna have to spend some time with this puppy. I did get a white screen of death on one project load up. I wish I knew what was causing that. it doesn't happen often. Never in Samplitude.

I mean this in all sincerity. I think the fact that I still have access to version 8.3.1 is the best feature of the 8.5 install. Thanks Cakewalk!!! Thanks for thinking this thru and making the upgrade path safe for people that want to learn 8.5 while continuing to work in 8.3.1 Well Done... two thumbs up! best regards, mike

The two most-used new features so far: - click on clip to stop scrolling during playback for inserting automation nodes on the fly - freeze without printing effects

- click on clip to stop scrolling during playback for inserting automation nodes on the fly I just tried it. That is the sweetest thing ever! I read about it but didn't let it filter through. I was stuck on the drag now time in play thing. Also very handy but your click track thing beats it.

Freeze without printing effects. That I don't get? Where is that listed or how is that possible? Do you mean to bypass the FX bin in a freeze as an option? Even then it doesn't make any sense. What would you do that for.

John, That feature is awesome if you want to freeze a synth (to free CPU and RAM resources), but still want the flexibility of tweaking audio FX.

That feature is awesome if you want to freeze a synth (to free CPU and RAM resources), but still want the flexibility of tweaking audio FX. I thought you could add FX to a frozen synth track. That was my understanding. I still don't see the usefulness of this as stated. Nor can I find it in the help file to read up on. No one should get the wrong idea here I simply do not understand this yet and thus am thinking about it as I understand freeze. I don't mean to doubt anybody I just don't see it as being useful as such. Not yet anyway. I need further explanation.

Well, let's say you've got a guitar track using one of your favorite presets on one of your favorite guitar emulators. Before, if you froze the track, the FX would get frozen too allowing you very little leeway as to track alteration. Now you can freeze the track without the FX so you can still try other FX till you get what you like. I'm sure that freezing this way doesn't free up as much resources as before but it's much more flexible. HTH.

You've got to be careful to look in the freeze options dialog and untick the "freeze effects" button. But it is a welcome feature addition.
