I use the Sonitus Reverb. A slight tweak of the Short and Sweet reverb. I'm doing mostly traditional (old) country with singers. A different genre probably will require different reverbs/settings.

Valhalla Room. $50. All as good as UAD's Lexi 224, which is $299 (in a blind taste test).

Valhalla Room and Wave Arts MasterVerb for algorithmic reverbs... TAL Reverb 2 has some nice plates....Free too ! Their Reverb 3 just didn't hit the spot for me... WizooVerb is an oldie, but a real goodie... I also use Perfect Space sometimes because I have a heap of impulses... I do wish it was x64 though !
Sorry - I don't use Autotune :)

ArtsAcoustic reverb, Breverb, IK CSR, Valhalla room, Redline, Pristine Space, 2C_Aether, PSP EasyVerb, EOS Reverb and free ones like LiquidSonics' Reverberate, kjaerhusaudio classic Reverb, Ambience and Omniverb. There's ones inside your host DAW and many inside various plug-ins. I think it was fashionable to buy at one time but I wouldn't bother buying more than one nowadays. Some are more 'lush' than others but people who know what they are doing can make virtually any of them sound like every other one.

+1 (Try the Cake 3 FX - free) I haven't invested in many plugs, specifically verbs so I can't comment on them. I use this one and I can usually get the right verb sound out of it. Occasionally I'll use a seperate delay plug-in for longer delays.

Been using the Sonitus, PerfectSpace and ValhallaRoom. Sonitus is a bit dark, IOW, i find it kinda dulls the vocal in the mix which sometimes is good. But when i dont want that, i use perfectspace plates. I've had Vallhalla for a couple months, but honestly, i cant find a setting for vocs that i like a lot. It just never seems to sit right for some reason. I think v-room worked well twice out of the last 6 or 8 vocals that i tried it on. ---------------------- One thing i've found recently that really helps to glue a vocal into mix is put perfectspace on the master buss and mix in a little bit of real-space>blues club on the whole mix. It pulls the mix together nicely without soaking it. YMMV.

For as long as I used Sonar, I never worried much about 3rd party reverbs, tbh. I dug Sonitus quite a bit - it was my go to verb and often made its way into final mixes. I've also gotten good results w/ the (former DSP/FX) Cakewalk reverb on a few occasions. The only one I didn't manage to get to work for me was the Lexicon one - and admittedly, i didn't try real hard. If I needed something that stood out a bit more, impulses it was. I really started shopping around for 3rd party algorithmic reverbs when I moved from Sonar. In terms of bundled reverbs, I think Sonar's probably the best there is. Besides Valhalla, IK's CSR was on the top of my list. It's a fairly good one.

Thanks for all the write backs on this. I know its all a matter of personal taste and there are a lot out there. I have liked Perfectspace and Sonitus, and some on SIR, which I noticed was not mentioned. I think I need to mess around more with some of the settings / parameters more. Any further thoughts / tips about adjusting the EQ section on some verbs....hi / low pass for different applications?

Early reflections is a good place to start tweaking your reverb. This can help you create a sense of dimension w/o drowning your instrument in reverb. Usually, you'll want to use a buss for you reverb and add a hi pass filter afterwards. Another tip I owe to Danny Danzi here on these boards - and I cannot thank him enough for that one - something he suggested for snare drums IIRC but which might help for other things - use the channel tool* to narrow the stereo image of your reverb. IOW, if something is panned dead-center, you don't necessarily want/need the reverb to spread all across the stereo field, but maybe a bit narrower and closer in relation to the instrument. That little tip really helped me clean up my mix big time - it's one less thing that gets in your way when you try to adjust other tracks. It's all about making room. * I think it's what it's called, i don't have Sonar installed on my laptop here.

Agreed...don't miss the hidden gem that is Studioverb2. It's not for everything, but it's always at least worth a try. Actually, I feel the same way about ValhallaRoom. It's also not for everything, but it's the one I try first because when it works, it sounds wonderful. It's versatile, very tweakable without being overly complex. PerfectSpace is superb for vocals - if you don't need the flexibility of an algorithmic reverb or true stereo. The main reason I don't use PS all the time is it's such a heavy CPU load, as all convolution reverbs are. So when I do use it, it's for projects that only have one reverb. I have a favorite third-party IR that I use a lot with PS; sorry, I forget where I got it but it's called "the_plant_plate_a.wav" if you want to google it. It was part of a collection, that's all I remember. I also have some neat novelty IRs that are fun when you don't want your vocal/instrument to sound like everybody else's.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I have mostly used the bundled verbs with X-1. I like Perfect Space mainly because I have a bunch of impulses. I want to one day try the CSR verb, I'm hearing good things a about it. I don't have any predefined setting I go to. My verb is usually different each time. I have been told that some of my material was way too verby and so I have been more attentive to using much less of it.....the thing is, most reverb programs have way more of those caves and cathedrals than workable settings,so even in Perfect Space I find myself adjusting with very short impulses.

I think in terms of types instead of brands; algorithmic & convolution. For vocals I normally use a plate, the length,pd, er, depth depending on the song itself. You could try any of the ones listed above & choose depending on budget, features etc.. For convo keep in mind the ir's (impulse responses) determine the quality, not so much the software that uses them. There's a bunch of free ones on the internet that are real crap.
