File shortcuts from media browser?

I've looked through the docs and the forum posts, but I haven't found a way to do what I want.  Anybody have an idea?  Or is this fodder for new feature suggestion?
 
I have lots of different audio clips that are generally organized by source. However, this organization doesn't really help if there are various types of files from the same source.  For instance, let's say I have a directory called "BunchaLoops" (not a breakfast cereal) but in that folder, there are one-shots, percussion loops, pitched single instrument tones, SFX, and more.  I'd like to use something like Windows 10's Quick Access, Libraries, or Shortcut function to drag files into a given spot without duplicating them, i.e. Alt+Click/Drag, without creating a duplicate of the file.  I would use these shortcuts to point to a folder or library of links to media files that have been sorted by type so that when I'm looking for that rusty-nail sound, I don't have to got from source to source, but rather could open the shortcut folder for "metallic SFX" and see the 186 variations on the sound in my library.
 
I reviewed the post [from gtgarner (http://forum.cakewalk.com/Solved-Audio-and-Picture-Cache-Folder-No-Shortcuts-m3191737.aspx)] and links from the thread that addressed junctions, hard links, symbolic links, etc., but that won't help.  If I have to use the command line every time I want to catalog a sound, it won't be done.  It's only practical if I can do a drag/drop or context menu which could be done from Windows, but not from Sonar's media browser.  Suggestions?

Are these attributes common in VST-compatible synths?  How would I find out which synths support these?  For example, how about Cakewalk products?
