Jim Roseberry I was disappointed with the demo also. I have the Cubase 7 demo and that's the direction I'm going. It's pretty amazing although it will take some work to change the way I think about some things. Learning a new DAW is a big job. Not to discourage you in any way... Until I believe the 7.03 update, Cubase was having video (playback) related issues. At v7.04, Cubase is pretty solid. At 8.04. DP is starting to solidify. It's so different, it's going to take a while to completely absorb... My copy should be here tomorrow. The video specific features sold me... Well i haven't made the purchase yet but the notation in Cubase is Amazing compared to Sonar. Also the feature that allows me to have someone download a free client and I can record them into Cubase over the web is extremely interesting. I suspect there will be a lot of gotchas there but I have a friend in LA that is an amazing singer and it would awesome to record him remotely. Also the ongoing project with Steinberg's newly acquired Sibelius team may lead to some very interesting communication with Cubase notation.

Cubase's automatic tempo mapping is also much easier (if you have to create click-tracks from previously recorded material). I bought Cubase for that reason alone... Although I spend a lot of time in X2, I like having other options in the toolbox. Each has strengths/weaknesses...

I do like Sonars docking etc... but Cakewalk is completely uninterested in notation or video. It's specifically not marketed for music for video. At's really marketed for rock/pop audio and loop type stuff and that is the only direction I've seen in several years. Although it has some high end professional features they are also heavily marketing towards hobbyists IMO. Nothing wrong with that but I need a different tool set. I'll still have to use it for all my old files.

The big stand outs so far, for me, are the upgraded ppqn which seems so much tighter than Sonar, and the ability to have different mixes on the same project. Just click a drop down menu and it changes your plugs and automation. I can now test different mixes without having to create completely different projects. This is very interesting.

That's the song that I'm getting so tired of. I just wish I could find one that had it all. EDIT: I take that back. I wish I could find one that had what I need.

I was on the quest for the perfect DAW... Been thru virtually everything that's available. Came to the realization that it simply doesn't exist. Closest I can get it to use multiple tools (each for it's strong points).

Downloaded the demo to check it out and couldn't get it off the machine fast enough. I couldn't use the interface because everything is so small. Had some crashes using BFD also.
