Video Card, which is appropriate?

I am planning to venture into the universe of video production, editing and the likes. However, I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 9400 lap, which is to be delivered in the early days of May month.

Intel core2 duo, 1.8 G Hz, 2Gig Ram, 120Gig HD, and some indiscreetly named on board sound and graphics card.

Am I deluded to think there are outboard graphics and video cards suitable for laptops? If not can someone please advise me on the good ones that are available out there?
