Favorite Piece Of Hardware?
I know a ton of you guys and girls use VSTs for lots of things that we used to use hardware for. What is it that you still turn to hardware for? Specifically, I am interested in hearing things that could have been replaced by a VST but havent. So at the current state of technology, a mic or speakers would not count. I personally have a couple of favorite boxes I have written about before. My favorite is probably my Waldorf Wave (not mine but pretty danged similar) or my Modcan Modular. (again stock image, but mine is actually larger with 3 racks of modules high by three towers wide). So far, I havent tried anything that comes close in either sound or inspiration. You? Thanks
Sonica Dual Core 3.4 GHz, 2GB Ram, 3HDs, UAD1, PoCo Firewire, DIGI 9652, D8B, vintage synths, guitars and more money than talent (though questionable how much of either). XP Home SP2. SPE6.2. Other things of variable interest.

I love my S90ES. I'm still amazed by its versatility, and it forms the center of my studio--I'd be lost without it. There's not many musical sounds that it can't create, whether they be based in analog synthesis, fm, modeled acoustic, or simply an emulation of another rompler. And the piano samples and touch are so good that I'm considering selling my Kawai upright.

1920's baby grand piano made by Urbas und Reisshauer, Dresden 1970's Alexander Double Horn (my second instrument - strange but true) vintage Neumann KM84/85 pencil condensers, matched pair (sequential serial numbers) Jaecklin Float PS2 electrostatic headset - simply unbelievable clarity and imaging Roland VR-760 combo keyboard - real drawbars, virtual tonewheels, sampled pianos, best keyboard feel ever. I think I covered some of these in the 'best/worst buys' thread. Ooops.

My Custom Shop 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Les Paul Style Epiphone guitar. (Actually it's my only guitar !!!) I'm currently liking using the Laptop with P5 and Reason whilst watching TV to record ideas etc etc. To later take into the main room. I can take the laptop with me for lunch session etc etc.

Yeah but the question was "What could be replaced with a VST but your hardware is much better?" I couldn't get by without my guitars either. Jinga I never got the puppy. I kind of got the quantum teleportation, but not the link to the macerena. The Fraggle Rock thing mystifies me. By the way and kind of off topic but what the he!!, Mr Snuffleupagus was recently arrested along with Paul Reuben (again) in a very compromising position.

Yamaha MO8. Same keyboard as the S90/P90, same sounds as the Motif. Its sequencer sucks, but who needs it? Better strings and piano than anything else I own, have ever owned, played or heard.

I just cannot say goodbye to the old analog guitar effects. I like to tweak the sound while playing and respond to the mood of the band. I have a couple of those eighties Boss Micro Racks. Always will keep them. Live I don't want a graphical interface, just lots of knobs, like the synth of the original poster. By the way, I'm still looking for a BOSS RBF-10 flanger.

ORIGINAL: chauncey_gardner Nice. I have a 56. Yup, the oldies are cool - Q: have you compared it to the new-made customshop ´56´s? I tested a customshop-relic ´59 ( at a store ) a couple of months ago, it felt pretty good, but nothing like mine - partly due to my original having a well worn maple neck & the relic having a rosewood neck. It was a really well built guitar, but I don´t think it should be advertised as an exact replica. Didn´t remind me of my buddy´s ´60 or ´61 (both RW necks off course) either, the neck was noticably thicker. Off course there may be differencies between the relic´s too, just like the originals. I´m just curious. Cheers Per
