Thinking about buying Project5 v2.5,

I tried out the v2.0 demo, and had some questions.

- When I imported a couple of midi files into the demo one of the file appear to be longer than expected (should have been a bar, but was longer) and the start times of the notes were incorrect. Is this a known issue within v2.0 that has been resolved in v2.5?

- Can you only reorder the slices in a groove clip via the slice editor in cyclone in project5?

- Can you display bar definitions in the free modein the pattern editor in the same as they are displayed in the step mode ?

Many Thanks,

the start times of the notes were incorrect.
I'm going to venture a guess, and say that the .mid file may have had a sysex 'header' in it for instrumentation setup. Project5 ignores most sysex, so it'll appear as blank space. There's no internal way to edit that out. It's easy enough to 'slide' the pattern start point ahead, and bring the edited pattern back into place, though.

One of the coolest features, as long as the .wav has been saved as a 'groove clip'.

I'm not sure that I'm clear on this question. Step mode really defines itelf by note 'cells' and total overall length. If you do change the value of each cell, though, then the bars that contain them update back in Free mode.

What Iwas hoping was that you reorder the slices via midi notes, like .rex files. that way, I can use them easily in different projects and no longer need propellerheads recycle, since I could slice using groove clips and replay in either cyclone or current rex/acid vst play AMG One. Just the fact that I could do it in one app would be superb. Otherwise I would have to groove clip it in project5, load the clip into AMG One export it as a midi and then perform the reordering.

What you can do in Cyclone is set each pad to a MIDI note (or range of notes) as a trigger. If you spread your slices among those pads, I believe that you can accomplish what you want. It can be one-shot, or toggled between looping and unlatched per-note trigger. It's not as versatile as some systems, but Cyclone has some unique uses.

    Regarding your "reorder slices" question…

If you convert WAVs to the REX (recycle) format, you could do the same by dropping your file into Dimension LE or Dimension Pro Instrument. Once you have it in the Dimension sampler you'll have a lot of head room for additional processing, FX and EQ after rearranging your slices.

I believe Dimension LE is included with P5. The only hiccup is getting Recycle to convert your files.

If you get p5, seriously consider Dimension Pro and Rapture to fill out P5.

    I just received P5 today myself :)

I got the download version and yes it does include Dimension LE. Enjoying it so far and encourage the OP to purchase. Even what little I have got to play with it, it is well worth the money. Has ran a couple of hours with out issues, and I am already comfortable doing basic secuencing. I do also have a question.... Is there an onlne or downloadable manual? I don't know if a manual is included with the box version, but AFAIK I received nothing in the download version..... Thanks!

Hunted for that large PDF, but not in the Cake folder on my drive and not on website.... Why don't they have it as a download? Anyway, the videos looks cool and I may go that route. But first a simple owners manual would be nice.... That being said it really is pretty user friendly. I have used several programs over the years and P5 is just about the easiest one I've seen. I like so far that it has the options that I need, but not 4000 other ones I don't need.....

Kenny, I just listened to "In memory of a Friend", very nice. I tried a few others, but that was my fav :)

Try here. I had to Save Target As ... to get at the 'Enhanced Documentation'.
It's geared towards version 2.0 (as is the Anatomy of ... link on the same page).

Been trying to talk Garrigus into writing (or at least overseeing the writing of) "Project 5 Power" for awhile. We need that to go along with the video.

    BremenCole,
Just downloaded and installed P5 2.5 moments ago. I'm up and running. There is an extensive help manual(which may be the content of the PDF) if you click F1.
Controller is connected, playing with the default loaded sounds right now. It seems to have found all of my VSTs.
This is going to be fun. I love new toys!

    RobertB,

I have had a blast tonight playing with P5. Super easy to navigate and yet seems deep. You are right, the help file seems pretty nice, but still even the same content in a PDF manual would be nice. I am a bit of a geek (understatement) and like the idea of something to read and learn from when I am not actually using the software. So far it looks like P5 could be what I need at this point. It is a capable sequencer, yet not bloated. It is lean, yet supported by a real software company. (get tired of the update every week single developer software that never quite makes it)

I do not use hardware or audio loops, so midi and VSTi is what is most important to me. Yet I do from time to time record audio, and mangle a loop. Seems like P5 is strong where I need it to be, yet can handle simple demands on the not so common tasks.

That being said. I have already updated to 2.5.1 but am unclear about dual core support. My rig is an AMD 4600 64X2 with 2 gig ram, and XP (home service pack 2 and tweaked). Don't get me wrong, the system is far from choking, but not where I would like to see it. I realize the footprint of P5 is larger than some little shareware app, but I would expect it to be optimized for modern computers.

Sorry, P% is not Dual core supported. In the next update later this year hopefully according to the bakers at Cakewalk

I have the same processor and for the most part iti s humming along. Stayed with AMD and looking forward to dropping a quad core chip in later this year. So I hope P5 2.5 or version 3.0 will be ready.

then I rewired P5 into SONAR ... did my editing.... extra analog tracks..and mixing

    +1 get that video ....
I got it and it realy helped clear up a lot of missing info for me
    well worth the money IMO

InstrEd, Thanks for the straight poop. Like you I have my eye on the quad core because it (i hope) will drop right into my mobo. I am cool with P5 not being dual core, but it had better be by the end of the year or it's worse than most shareware. Call me crazy but I expect more from a software company than I do a lone c++ hacker.....
