PlugIns - The biggest problem for dropouts?
Over the years using Sonar since version 3, I think I had been blessed (like many) to not have any reall problems regarding unwanted dropouts, error messages and just plain weird stuff.. I have been quite slack over the past year, and have not really produced anything great, not even come close... But one thing I have found with Sonar 6 is that I am getting a hell of a lot more errors with sonar 6PE... The main problems are - 1. Sonar will suddenly jusy dissapear without any warning. 2. Sonar will give me a popup message saying that it has to close and would I like it to save the session.. With the help of many people here in reading similar problems. I have come to the conclusion that the problems lie within some of my softsynths/romplers - namely Sampletank and V-Station... These are plugs that I have never had problems with earlier versions of Sonar.. So.. 1. Can anyone tell me why this would start happenening now when Sonar 6 should be more solid than older versions? 2. Will Sonar address these problems in version 7? 3. Should I just get rid of those old synths and but some plugs more up to date?

Only way I know, is to totally uninstall Sonar, and on reinstall, only install the 6.2 patch. Not sure what if any registery entries 6.2.1 makes, but if any, they would remain. I doubt that should be a problem though. Do you remember having this problem before updating though ?

I have updated my DAW though to a AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 4200 (see below) I made the silly decision to buy a small case (Lanboy) and a Micro ATX motherboard to suit... Im actually not that happy with it. I cant really pin point anything, but think its just way to cramped in the and may get a bit hot.. Hopefully soon I can buy a new motherboard and case, and replace the all the hardware, CPU, RAM etc..

Not that i know of or experienced and im on my DAW daily for hours and hours using sonar. 6.2.1 is stable from my point of view. I do know that some plugs dont play nice with eachother, buts thats not a 6.2.1 problem. Cj

Its funny you should mention the heating in the small case because I was going to ask about that and power supply issues. This is a list of things that cause inexplicable problems with software but aren't caused by software. 1. Overheating 2. Power supplies 3. Disc drives If you can eliminate these things then go look further in software. As for 6.2.1 the issue that Ognis is talking baout is just his perception. The forum is not flooded with 6.2.1 problems. What did arise though was that there is a process to updating from 6 through to 6.2.1 and in the ealy release many had bought and installed 6 then updated with 6.01 then when 6.2 came along there were problems because of the changes to VISTA compliance etc and the many new features. The upshot was that the process of installing updates was critical to having a successful update. there was a readme file that explained all this and the process was: Start again with a fresh install after uninstalling SONAR 6 and the 2 relevant registry keys and then Install 6.0, Skip 6.01 install 6.2 then 6.2.1 all without ever opening the recently updated versions. Once 6.2.1 was installed go for it. No problems. The main 2 points from this was 1. skip 6.01 update and 2. don't run SONAR until all the updates were complete. And read the file that explains how various directories were moved around to accomodate VISTA compatability even in WIN XP. That way you''ll still be able to find your aud.ini file etc.

I think it's the most stable Sonar ever. The only thing i can think of regarding your plugins is the way Sonar 6 handles VSTs. It's different from earlier versions. Perhaps uninstalling the VSTs that are causing problems (complete with registry sweep) and reinstalling them and rescanning them will solve or help your problem. It shouldn't take too long, and might be worth a shot.
