Dan, great work. Very nice use of space and well orchestrated. Really a great mix. The drum tone did not work for me however, would have preferred a straight snare, instead of high tom. EQ and production sound really good. This is top shelf. Props.

this is really excellent, dan! love the piano on this! the only thing I have a problem with is the hat, it kind of gets old before you stop it and start the ride. and then when you bring it back in again- it's OK, but it's just the same for too long, IMO.

love the mix and the sounds in this, tho, really great work!

People expect me to say this... but I only say it where I really feel it's true. This would have sounded very cool with congas verse drums. There I said it.

But this is very nice work.

Hi Tom,

It's a snare, just a really tight one. It's from an R&B kit that I sort of fell in love with awhile ago. I couldn't decide on a snare at first and settled on this one. You may be right, but I still like it in this track. Glad you liked the mix, I dreaded it after all the parts were recorded as I knew it would be a lot of work to mix.

Regards,
Dan

Hey Beagle,

How would you suggest altering it? I'm open to your ideas. I treat the drum parts like a drummer, having been one in several bands. So, this is the way I would have played it without a bandmate smacking me

Dan

I use lots of bongos/congas in my stuff, but for this one, I didn't get the "urge". I did play around with them, just left them out of the mix.

I prefer the driving beat to congas only, but that's just me.

Dan

LOL! as I typed that I wondered if you were a drummer! personally, I would just mix it up with something else in the kit a little more instead of having the hat so constant throughout for so long is all. I'm NOT a drummer, so I'm certainly not qualified to tell you how to play drums better - listening from an "engineer" side, I simply thought that the hat started to get a little old by the time you changed it to the ride. then the same thing for the ride.

but again - I think the song is great!

Drummer, guitarist and a bassist in different bands. I think I understand what you're getting at and I can hear it now that I'm looking for it. Kinda takes the shine off it.

I may not change it for this song, but I got your point and will take it to heart for the next one.

Dan

Dan, I enjoyed this contemporary jazz- reminds me of David Benoit. The mix is fabulous- sounds like live musicians at work! Thanks for comments on In my Head- and thanks again for allowing me to add piano to Lost and Found
