KTDrumTrigger

I was playing around with a plugin called KTDrumTrigger, trying to take a drum loop and extract a MIDI sequence from it. The plugin allows you to filter three separate channels out of incoming audio and each channel will create MIDI events.

I can bring the plugin up in P5 and insert it as an effect or an instrument (if I configure it that way), but I wasn't able to route the MIDI output back into P5. The problem is that MIDI output tracks don't seem to accept instruments or VST effects (or audio clips). However, I haven't worked much with these tracks so maybe I'm misunderstanding how to use them.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use this type of plugin with P5 (audio in/MIDI out)? What I want to do is record the MIDI on another channel, or possible just loop it back and play a sampler on another track. The plugin includes a readme that briefly mentions P5 (and says it is not supported there) but I'm not sure what version of P5 it refers to - I was hoping that MIDI out would have corrected this.

I haven't tried this for a while, but here's how I remeber this situation
(maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong or out of date)

A number of vst instruments can output midi as well as audio. Some hosts implemented the vst standard in extended ways and can route the midi out of an instrument as input to another instrument. Cakewalk followed the vsti/Dxi standard and did not extend it, so P5 can't route mid this way.

The relatively good news is some relatively affordable hosts that can be operated as vsti within P5 do support this.
So energyXT 1.4 is a very usefulo host for routing like this. FLStudio can also run as a vsti withing P5 and supports this routing. I've confirmed this with both of these hosts.

There may be ways to use other tools, like Maple midi or other routers to get P5 to work as you'd like.
Or it may be that it's supposed to work that way with 2.51 and I just worked around it earlier and kept with that.

It is a nice tool to have in the kit.

I have not experimented with this plugin, but I'm speculating that you would not be able to route its output to a MIDI track's input directly in Project5. Instead, I think you'll need to have installed a virtual MIDI router software package (there are some freebie MIDI routers available). Such a package will present itself to Project5 as both a MIDI input device and a MIDI output device. Then, select the virtual MIDI router as an output on the trigger plugin you want to use, and select the virtual MIDI router as a MIDI input on the MIDI track or SoftSynth track you want the trigger plugin to control. The MIDI router should take the output from the VST plugin and route it back to the MIDI input of the second track.
