I copied this from another thread I posted on. I also use Avira, which is free.

I have separate PC's for recording and internet/email/other uses.
I think that is the best remedy.
I've never had a problem on my DAW, but recently, even with Kaspersky AV, I got infected on my other PC.
All sorts of really weird activity and I was at the point of considering a HD wipe and starting over.
I found this - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
They have a free version as well as a $25 version which includes real time protection.
I ran this program and it found all sorts of stuff.
Once the infections were cleared, my PC was back to normal.
Just a heads up.

Avast Home Edition prevented a bug from infecting my wife's machine just this weekend, after she inadvertently opened an email attachment containing malware. It was an email message of the type claiming to contain a UPS tracking number in the attachment, and it fooled her. Avast grabbed it before it could run and cause problems. Good stuff.

there is LOADS of them going around, but with different company names also trying to catch out people. It's quite old now, but the AV companies didn't pick it up straight away as they normally do

MarioD , I wouldn't rely on windows inbuilt firewall IF your not behind a router with a firewall also, even then zone alarm etc are free also..MS firewall it's far from the best free one, it just does the minimum or else the other makers would say monopoly..

James, the issue I have with adaware is that and spybot s&d conflict.

Reece.. feeling of deja vu from the software forum ? haha

Yes, I am behind a router with a firewall.

I should have mentioned that I believe everyone who uses the Internet should be behind a router with a firewall.

Thanx for bringing this up.
