Browser feature?

new video is up in Cake Tv , I didn't see or hear any mention to a search feature , Working with the browser has never been easier but how do we find that sample/loop, Do we Still Have to go to windows search, or did they add a search tab in the new browser? Also I really hope they added a toggle feature for auditioning loops in the browser so there is no more holding down the alt key..  Any info on this would be greatly appreciated , Thanks

I assume that is quote also covers sample browsing, but I don't know about the others.

"Not only are there favorites (presets for various locations) there is also now a "spotlight" style search filter so you can now type part of a name and it will filter the displayed list as you type showing the nearest match. This is very handy when you have a folder with hundreds of items and you are searching for something with starting with the word drums for instance. "

I've noticed this topic discussed a few times on the forums and don't quite get it. In media browser, just set it up right (autoplay) and when you clik on a loop it plays, clik on another then it plays, clik in any space and it stops, Not sure what the problem it is you're having. Don't know what the 'alt' thing does/is.

DJJHart is 100% right.   We are required to hold the ALT key when auditioning loops that ARE NOT in the tempo of the project.

In other words, if your project is at 120bpm and you try to audition a loop that is in 130bpm, it will "play" that loop (in the browser) at 130bpm.  If you hold down the ALT key while auditioning it, it will play at 120bpm (the project tempo).

Hope that explains it.   And, Sonar should have an option to do this rather than force the user to *hold down ALT* -- it becomes a real pain in the ... hand.

Yes that is the point of the browser folks. You "type" in the name at the top line of the browser of a spotlight searchable item and it will list it. Start to type "del" and it will list the delays found on your system. Then you can either effects bin the effect or drag directly on the content of a particular clip.

Currently the search feature in X1's browser only searches the current folder. Useful for folders with lots of files (like kicks, etc), but it won't search the entire system at this point.

We hope to enhance the search capabilities later.

Ah, but the question is - will it auto preview at the host tempo if the loop one is previewing is in a different tempo?  Or will we still have to hold ALT ?

Hmm? Since you use the word "loop" I assume you mean something that has been acidized or groove looped.  I still don't get it. I don't have to hold 'alt' for anything. Loops (acidized)  always play at the project tempo.
If you are talking about old school type "loops" that are not acidized, how in the world could Sonar know their tempo?

Tim yes - some loops are not acidized.  They are in specific tempos by design.   They can still be used as acidized loops in Sonar (just CTRL-L to groove clip them).   And there are also one-shots (though they wouldn't fall into this scenario per se).

So at the moment, as I said. we are FORCED to hold ALT while auditioning the non-acidized type of file.  Very cumbersome indeed.   This was a bad design, in my opinion.  When it became available in 8.x, I thought to myself "Huh?  Who at CW actually uses this stuff??"  lol

    ba,
I guess I could just go see for myself if the miracle that you describe is possible, but, well, I don't want to right now:)  So, if I have keyboard solo recorded at say 120, and I hit 'alt' while auditioning in the media browser in a project at 130, it will play at 130? How could that be?? I know I'm missing something in translation here I think.

It sounds great that you can enable permanent in tempo-previews in X1!

Can you disable looping as well? It'd be very nice when you audition short one-shot samples.

geez, learn somethin new everyday. great stuff.
    thanks Mr. ba..

I'm not 100% sure "how" but it works.  I'm sure it has to do with some type of transients or internal markers, but who cares lol.

It's not hijacking the thread to talk about the browser, in my opinion.

I REALLY REALLY hope this is the case.  It really makes no sense to have to hold it down.
