MC4: Can't hear a sound.

I'm trying to start using Music Creator 4 and I'm a total newbie.

First I had problems with the sound chip (Realtek). The app said "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system. Please go to Options/Audio and choose a different driver model". Also the Hz check (11025-192000Hz) failed.

I got rid of the error by installing drivermode.zip (I selected MME-32bit). The Hz check is now successfull too.

Now there are no errors but I still can't hear anything. I've tried to play the ready-made sample projects. The projects starts to play but there is no sound.

My system:
- Fujitsu Siemens laptop
- Realtek sound chip
- Windows Vista 32-bit
- Music Creator 4

I have checked that the sounds are on in Windows. I do hear the sounds of any other application. E.g. Cakewalk Studio Instruments sounds ok.

Br,
Mikko

You need to have a MIDI synthesizer as an output to hear most of the sample tutorials. In MC under 'Options', you should have the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth as an option. Selecting that will allow you to use that synth to hear MIDI from your sound card. Then, each MIDI trcak has to have that synth selected for an output to hear it.
But you should look into soft synths. The TTS-1 soft synth provided with MC 4 sounds much better than the MS GS synth. Read the help file section on "Using Soft Synths".

    Thanks for your quick reply!

You mean Options->Audio->Drivers->"Output Drivers"? I only have "Speakers (Realtek High Definition)" in the list.

The sample tracks are mostly MIDI. You will need to insert a soft synth as Greg explained.... read and follow tutorial #8. It explains this process. My site also has info that might help too.

TTS is a good synth to get started with.

'Options>MIDI Devices'. The MS GS Wavetable synth is a good learning tool, but the TTS-1 soft sytnh will sound better.

Why to read the manual if you can waste other people's time instead?

The tutorial seems to answer my questions. The tutorial also told me that my questions were not very smart exactly.

    I got it working. Thanks!

well... if you're a guy...it's against the "man code" to read any manual first. just dive in and get hopelessly lost.....

If you are a "real man" you would then beat it into another shape with a hammer while complaining that it didn't work anyway.

asking for help...... not an option.....

    reading the manual.... unheard of.

Correct. Manuals for women and children, hammer for men. It's the mission of a male to ravage the no-good.

That's exactly why it's always a man who writes the manual
