(Cover Warning!) My Homage to Bob....

Best. Song. Ever.

Don't yell at me for posting a cover. I Do make my own stuff, but geez louise, do I love Mr. Bob. See if I've done him any justice at all....

Keys only - recorded as audio. Just me doing vocals and back up (listen for that. I kinda like the harmonies toward the end.... )

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright

BRING ON THE COMPARISONS!!!

beautiful voice, and i loved the harmonies, i would change one thing though(wait not on the song, it`s perfect) you have yourself as the author of the song alongside Bob, i think you might get in trouble for that since , i don`t think you co-wrote this song with dylan and since you covered his song, it would still be him as the author, unless you actually purchase a license.

This is really beautiful. Great playing and great voice, what more do you want really? excellent. I think Alkie may have a point about the legalities of this track, i thought cover versions wer'nt allowed on soundclick, but i coould be wrong about that. Better to check to be on the safe side though.

Nice work. Simple yet effective. I like your voice, The vibrato is strong but that seems to be your voice. It has a kind of Joanie Mitchell quality to it and for me fits well with a folk kind of sound.

each genre has a cover song catergorie, so yes covers are allowed, they just cover themselves with the legal smeagal stuff , when you upload. Sorry Julibee just had to answer his question , okay back to listening to Julibee everyone.

It's funny I've always wanted to do a punk version of this song - your's is obviously much prettier than the version in my head!! Definitely a nice twist on the song while still being respectful to the original.

Take this with a grain of salt because I can't sing a lick - you're a very talented singer and have a beautiful voice, but sometimes the vibrato was a bit too much for me. Just a style choice I guess, but in my opinion it makes it sound a little dated.

    Overall really nice job though!

You know how I feel about this one!! I'm glad you posted it. It shows off all your skills. I've listened to this for the last couple weeks () and I believe it's my favorite cover of this Dylan classic. Way to go, J. Can I tell them I played piano for this cut. Oh, no one would believe it anyway. i did the guitar part.

Hi Dave... I'd love to hear this all punked out! And NO hard feelings! I know my vibrato is not for everyone... I can do better (meaning LESS) when I'm using a chest voice or doing some blues or harder rock 'n roll - but singing soft 'n purty really brings out the wobblies. I'm pointing my finger at my opera teacher (yeah, I do that too!)... darn you, you Met-Trained coach of my youth! She wouldn't be happy if she knew I ever went into chest voice at ALL...

Thanks, Mamabear... boy I sure hit a coupla those keys HARD in the intro, eh? Don't always know my own strength...

Yeah I remember this one, pretty song. But it sounds a little muffled, like maybe an EQ issue? At least to me on my phones, I think the piano could be a little brighter. What piano program did you use? And maybe your voice too, but maybe the vox are fine. There were a few minor spots on the vox where I got some noticeable silabance, you're using a pop filter, right?

It's amazing how it can sound one way in your project, and by the time you get done hammering it down in to an MP3, a lot of the frequencies are dramatically changed..

One pretty cool trick you can do with Ozone, that I need to do more of… Is to bounce it down, turn it in to an mp3? Then import the MP3 back in to your project as an audio track? And solo it? Then you can compare the EQ to your reference track. It’s a cool idea, and it works really well.

(Warren, I'm loving your new look! Or is it an old look? Anyway... I knew you'd like it, having heard it before!)

Hey, there, Robby... Here's the thing: No program on the keys. It's audio from my Privia. I've been trying to get a brighter sound out of it (I've got it set on "Rock Piano" as it is...), as I don't have a decent midi program that I like. I've tried several freebies - I'm cheap, being a stay-at-home-mom, 'n all) and haven't found one that makes me happy. One of these days I'll save up/break down and get something decent. I had a big discussion about keys in as audio v/s midi, and found out rather quickly that I'm the only one who prefers tracking it as audio in. Yeah. I know. I just can't seem to get it to "feel" right when I record midi... I'm still working on it, though.

I KNEW someone was going to hit me up on the sibillance - I know it's there. I've learned oodles since I first did this (which was awhile ago), but overall I really like the mood I was in or something when I recorded it, so I've kept it. Am/was using a pop filter. My mic seems to overly sensitive to sibillance, and I need to learn more about eq'ing to fix any areas where it happens.

Oh geez. Have to add "Ozone" to my "when I win the lottery" list. Sounds like a good idea...

You do realize that I don't have anything above and beyond free syths (none of which appear on this song) and whatever SHS6XL came bundled with? SO yeah. There's that.

In anycase, I'm glad you listened, and REALLY glad you were honest. I dig that. And you weren't even rude... :)

if you recorded the Midi and sent it to me, i`d be glad to play around with it for you, i have almost every piano program there is, i`d love to here it ran through my Steinway or German classical.

That's one of the really nice things about Melodyne that I like. You can take words, or phrases that you feel have too much, or not enough, and reduce or increase it :-) I love Melodyne, but I don't always use it, but sometimes, it can be a life saver, another one for the Christmas list Julie :-) And True Pianos I like (comes with Sonar 8 pro) and I also have Ivory, which I really like... And NI's akoustic piano is nice too. The really cool thing about midi is you can play it live to the tick track? And then go in and listen to the tick and look at the midi notes, and look at their timing througout, slow it down, speed it up, move notes, add scales and runs, put things in, take things out, change velocities, grab parts and put them in other tracks with other instruments? i.e., strings? It would open up a whole new world for you...

This is very nice Julibee. It's one of my all-time favorite Dylan songs. Actually that whole "Freewheelin" album is great. I love the piano interpretation and how you played it at a slower tempo than the original. Your playing is very good and the slower tempo made it more like a "torch song" ya know?

As always, your singing is fantastic!! It's very, very pretty and nicely recorded too. One tiny crit. I have to echo what some of the others have said. If you could bring down the vibrato just a touch I think I would like it even better than I do already. It sounds very Joni with the vibrato and that's great, cause I really like Joni a lot. It's just that I'm a big fan of simplicity and this is such a simple song, do you know what I mean? But please don't get me wrong, it sounds just wonderful the way it is!!!

    Great job!!

Oh... don't get me wrong... I DO use midi. A lot. I even taught my 7-year old how to do it. He has written over 20 "symphonies" on both piano roll (is that what you're calling a "tick track"?) and staff view with multiple (free) synths. Some of it isn't half bad, either. He's getting good!

I've a few songs posted on my reverbnation with LOADS of midi and horrible mixing. My "Missing Person" was all midi, in fact. As is "Reservoir", "Chasing Shadows" and "Used to Know."

Just have a thing for keys in as audio. But I'm working on it.

And here you go opening up cans of (financial) worms with this Ozone stuff... and now Melodyne! I gotta stop coming to these boards. It's going to cost me.... $$$$.

I hear you, Don! That comment makes sense - less vibrato for a more simple arrangement. Touche. Not offended, and appreciate your ears. I love Joni, too... have several (bad and waaaay early on in my Sonar experience) covers of hers, too! Thanks for chiming in. I get the feeling our album collections are crazy similar...

Great work on this track Juliana! Vocal and piano performances are superb. Love the harmonies. The vibrato was a little more apparent early on, but seemed to settle in as the song progressed.

Production-wise, this is very nice. Vocals and piano sound great on my system (Bose companion 3-2.1). I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but there are several noticeable plosives throughout the song (e.g., @ 0:45, 2:25, 2:50, 3:01, esp. @ 3:21) - just some minor imperfections in an otherwise perfect rendition! But, it might be worth investing in a pop filter if you don't already have one.

Anyway, great work on this piece!

Jules, you are cheating and taking the easy path... you are using vibrato when you should be using projection and modulation (vocal dynamics).

I know you can do it with out it because you are actually a bit inconsistent with it's use. You are much better when you don't.

However, even with the vibrato, this is a better version than Dylan's

don't hate me cuz of what I said please.. I am only trying to help

I think I never heard the original tune..
I was tapping with my right hand to your song.. I believe you didn't play to a click.. which makes your song as unique as one of Dylans songs, I think that should be enough of a comparison..
I am glad that you don't sound like him..lol.. I enjoyed listening to your countryesque voice.. Vonda Shephard comes to mind. great job!
