Weird problem in 8.5
Every time I open a relatively new project I get a pop-up that states "Transients are in the process of being generated...playback may be different until process is complete." The project wil play fine for a few plays, then it gets totally garbled and distorted. This project uses Kontakt, Perfect Space, Pentagon, and Rapture. Any thoughts? Vernon

I would use Save as... and experiment with that project removing one thing at a time to see what the problem is.

Its normal and it means that when you open your project, audio snap is calculating the transients. There is no problem.. Cj

John Why is audio snap use in a MIDI project? Is it all midi??? He just listed the VST and VSTi's he's using. That doesnt mean he doesnt have any audio files. I use VSt and VSTi in projects with audio files. so can he. Cj

So why list those things when they have nothing to do with anything? What I am not getting is is there an audio track using audio snap or not? His post is unclear to me. If on the other hand he has audio tracks generated from MIDI, well you see where this is going.

I've only seen the "Transients..." msg displayed when AS was enabled, and that's normal, but there seems to be something else going on, since Vernon goes on to say: The project wil play fine for a few plays, then it gets totally garbled and distorted. This project uses Kontakt, Perfect Space, Pentagon, and Rapture. I guess we'll have to wait for him to post back with more info. -Susan

But i do know that when audio snap is enabled your project will say "Transients are in the process of being generated" And his horrible playback is caused by sound card driver issues or he has audio snap enabled on a project and the transients are messing up the audio. You've got four Synths active with different settings? And Audio Snap enabled? And when you open the project Audio Snap tries to calculate all those variances? You should only use Audio Snap on tracks you have bounced that don't have active synths working. Here comes the debate.

I question the question. Why is audio snap used here? Crg I can't see a use for audio snap for any audio generated by MIDI. If one is having timing issues fix it in the MIDI track. Susan is thinking along the lines I am I think.

Sorry for the confusion... I upgraded to 8.5 last week and this is a new popup message I haven't seen before. A search for transients wasn't helpful. I do have a couple of audio tracks and I was playing with audiosnap. However, I thought I had disabled it. I am unfamiliar with what synth/effect etc. create transients, that is why I listed the synths. If it is audiosnap, how can I be sure it is disabled? Thanks, Vernon

Go to your "pic cache" folder and delete the files in there (they will be rebuilt when needed).

I was questioning the need for it in the project in question There was no need for it. He enabled audio snap it by mistake, hence his post. Your questioning why he has audio snap and he didn't even know he had it...I dont get your issue here or your argument.. Your making something out of nothing. Its like saying what was the need for wearing the green shirt when the guy who got dressed was blind. he didn't know he had a green shirt on

And, while we all have some bugs we'd like to see fixed - Sonar 8.5.3 has been amazingly stable (for me and many others). I throw the kitchen sink at it too. Tons of heavy plugins/fx/etc, and I haven't had a 'serious' crash in a long time. Bugs, a few. but that's to be expected. However, I can work for hours/days and 8.5.3 sticks with me. As you say - the deeper you dig - the deeper it goes. Enjoy.

But why I asked is I thought the OP might be using it to fix timing problems with his MIDI. If so I was going to explain it wasn't needed for that. Is that clear enough for you?

Susan G Hi John- Doesn't that message also appear when you clear your picture folder? Is there a setting to clear it on startup? A) Not if I don't have AS enabled for the project I load, and B) Not that I know of. You can clear out the folder manually or increase the size by changing the PicCacheMB= setting in AUD.INI -Susan Actually i have seen this message when I emptied the Picture cache and there is not one instance of audiosnap enabled.

Yes I have updated to 8.5.3, but I am currently using 8.0.2 for projects. 8.5.3 doesn't like something about our system and we have had constant dropouts and crashes, so i just avoid it and use 8.0.2. thanks.
