I can't hear my instrument!!

I have Sonar Producer Edition 3.

I am running Vista home premium.
System: Compaq Presario v6000 system.

I cannot hear my instruments in Sonar when I plug them into my system. I plug direct into my mic port on my sound card. I can record with no problems and my levels are reading great but I never hear my instrument through Sonar. No matter what I plug in, guitar, bass, keyboards, mic, etc.
Help!!

You wanna play it soft, we'll play it soft. You wanna play it hard, we'll play it hard.

Per the help file that you are avoiding for some reason, it says this and it took me about 3 secounds to type in input echo and have it find it for me

SONAR has several buttons to control input monitoring:
Per-track Input Echo button --each audio track has an Input Echo button that turn's that track's input monitoring on or off.
Global Input Monitor button--the Playback State toolbar (to display, use the Views-Toolbars-Playback State command) has the Input Monitor button on the right end, which turns input monitoring on or off on all audio tracks with one click.
Audio Engine button --clicking this button so that it's in its up position turns all audio activity in SONAR off, which includes input monitoring.

Turn your speakers down, and on an audio track that you want to monitor, click the Input Echo button so that it's lit up (on) . To disable monitoring for this track, click the button off.

Input echo isnt on as standard to prevent microphone feedback loops, IE the sound from your speakers is fed into the microphone, which then comes back out the speakers into the microphone again, closely followed by loss of hearing and speakers.

Turning it on is as simple as turning on the input echo button on the track lane, looks like a series of right brackets .. ) .. growing in size.
