Studio 8 not working atfer crash

New user here . . .
 
I just installed Studio 8 today and everything seemed to be working fine for a while. Recorded a few bass tracks as a test, and some midi keys.
 
When I tried to use an effect after recording, Sonar crashed. Bummer. I lost everything.
 
When I re-started and tried to open a new project, I got no empty track listings. There is no INSERT option to insert tracks on the top menu bar.
 
Any suggestions?
 
My gear:
 
Toshiba Satellite, 4 gig, Duo Core
Edirol UA-25EX
Edirol PCR 500.

    What effect. you lost everything, cause you did not save anything before the crash. Keybind your "S" to Save and press "S" very often, as i do.
    The no insert option could be that you need to select ALL at the bottom of the track view under the tracks AND/OR you need to spread out the tracks so it shows the insert box, either horizontal and/or vertical.
