Improved audio time shifting - an alternative

"The next version of SONAR will improve audio time shifting with a transient tool, proportional stretching, & easier UI"

I'm starting to feel a little behind the curve on this feature considering Logic 9 and Propellerheads' forthcoming Record (this Wednesday) offer really high-quality time-stretching according to reviews. Now Sonar will join this group.

Not that Cubase has sub-standard time-stretching. In fact I believe they pioneered at least some of the current standards in audio time stretching. But people are complaining that Cubase 5 actually has worse time stretching than its predecessors.

A solution for the Cubase user: Get Propellerheads' Record. Use it as a rewire client. Do MIDI in Cubase and audio in Record. Best of both worlds. When the MIDI is locked, convert to audio and dump to Record. One of Record's features is easy transfer to other DAWs as stems. There you go.

LOL. I'm probably not the only person interested in alternatives. The challenge for Cakewalk in getting any more of my dollars (they've gotten plenty over the years) is to blow Cubase off the map. Otherwise, I'm real happy with it. Step Sequencer 2 will most likely be the tipping point - what it's about and what it can do. Meanwhile, just thought I'd share this idea about overcoming the audio stretching thing. From all reports, Record will be champion in this area. But we haven't seen what Sonar next has on offer obviously.

In my last computer I had a Creative Xi-fi soundcard. Yes, I know you risk having mud thrown at you if you mention the word 'Creative' in these forums... but it meant I had a little slider which could change the speed on the fly of any audio being played, without changing the pitch, and with hardly any loss of quality.

THAT'S the flexibility I'd like in SONAR!!

When sonar introduced mpex technology, it was very good quality, and Ive used it a lot, but it isnt as user friendly because it needs to have a start bpm and go to bpm configuration... and it looks like ancient graphics.

But, it is very high quality. If they can i,prove on this, nice. It has served me well already, I must say-

    My 2cents!

Record = No 64bit =old useless s-hit! Haven’t even check this piece of useless garbage, because Propellerheads stuff are just so old outdated and uninteresting! I have hard time to imagine that any professionals have any interesting in this old and outdated platform before it even gets released. It's like it was made in year 2000 or something?
RAM limits= useless after 20min work!  Okay, SSL and a lot of other great stuff, but....still useless

Logic PRO 9 = No 64bit = old useless s-hit, useless after 20min work, because you will end up with this message after 20min! You can always play chess on MAC instead and wait for LOGIC 10 hope that, that will be realesed in 64bit instead! LOL

Pro Tools 8 = No 64bit = zzzzzz sleeping platform! Nooo!!! it's not 1994 its 2009!  also old useless s-hit, no use after 20min work, because you will end up with same message after 20min work as LOGIC. LOL

Cubase 5 = In 64bit, now we talking!  Even greater if it had actually work too. The bitbridge even crash with inhouse stuff from Steinberg?
    http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=121917

SONAR 8 and SONAR 9 =  In 64bit and work! Work with WINDOWS 7, 64bit too. What can I say, just all good! Always forefront of all new technology. First on Native 64bit and anything! Use whatever new technology you though at it!

    Regards

Something tells me that Freddie has a little infatuation with all things 64 bit.
