Line6 TonePort UX8 Problems - No Signal?

I recently purchased a new Dell Inspiron laptop, and Music Creator 5 (which I've patched up to 5.0.5 because the laptop runs on Windows 7).  I then purchased a Line6 Toneport UX8 USB digital interface, which I've also updated to the latest version of drivers.

Problem is, I can't get Music Creator to "hear" what the UX8 is sending.  The only ports that "work" are the two guitar ports on the front of the UX8.  In console view, in MIME mode, I only get the Left, Right, and Stereo options.  In ASIO mode, I can only select the odd numbered inputs, and can only record one track at a time.  And Music Creator still doesn't "hear" the signal (i.e., the meters don't move in console or track view).

If I open the UX8 "tool", the green light is flickering on the input I'm using (in this case, 3), so at least that's working, but like I said, nothing is making it to the Music Creator.

I'm kind of a noob at this, but I've worked with Cakewalk in the past with MAudio interfaces and I haven't had this problem.  What am I missing?  Thanks in advance.

that's because MC5 only allows 2 simultaneous inputs.  you have to upgrade to Sonar Home Studio in order to get the full benefit of your hardware's inputs.

Crap!  Thanks for the info, Beagle.  I was wondering if it had something to do with buying Cakewalk's cheapest product (in price, I mean).

Do you have a cakewalk s/w recommendation that'll give me the most bang for my buck?

Is there a reason why you need to record multiple inputs?
Of course, recording a band would be a good reason, but MC is a good choice for just about anyone who wants to get into home recording and, in my opinion, has a nuclear warhead in terms of bang for the buck.
SONAR Home Studio 7 is the cheapest Cakewalk product that supports multiple inputs, and I think it's only $49 now.
    That's a cobalt bomb.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

    Thanks, Greg.
Yeah, I need to record multiple inputs.  I'm in a band, and I want to put probably 6 mics on the drums and see how that plays out.  Your point is taken, though, everything else will probably be recorded one or two at a time, but multiple inputs is why I got the Line6 UX8 in the first place.  I'll definitely consider the cobalt bomb.  Thanks for your inputs (pun intended).

That is a really good price on HS7.....

another way to mix the drums into MC5 is to divide the drums into two groups in a stereo mixer and use the 2 inputs on MC5 to record into 2 tracks.....

or simply mix them all in stereo and record.  Of course you don't have the option to tweeze the compression and  eq on each piece of the kit that way.....

as greg said, SHS7 upgrade from MC is $49 right now.  upgrade to SHS7XL is $79 (if you do any MIDI at all then the XL version is well worth the extra $).

note:  it is my belief that these prices will not be this way for very long and that the new versions will be coming out very soon.  my guess is sometime between now and mid-November, but could happen at any day.  then the new version will have different features and plugins available, but it will also cost more.
