New User--Audio problems.
Please bear with me. 1. When I open a New Project and load in a New Track, I might load in SI Drum Kit 1, and the really cool picture of the kit comes up in another window. I can click my mouse on these drums and hear the sounds. When I go to record and I click on them in the same way, I can see the meters rising and hear it through my headphones, but I get nothing when I go to playback; in fact, I'm sure it didn't even record. The transport number never gets past even one second. There's something I'm missing in the audio setup, isn't there? Or is it not possible to record those SI Drums by clicking with the mouse? Please, I need really dumbed-down advice: "go to this menu at the top of the screen, scroll down to this option, click this box..."...that kind of thing. By the way, I'm using an Acer laptop; 4G RAM; Realtek built-in speakers (through phones); 2.13ghz Intel processor...in case any of that is important. Thanks in advance.

you cannot record the mouse clicks on the drum kit pieces. clicking on the kit pieces is only for "auditioning" the sounds. you have to use a keyboard or other MIDI controller to record MIDI drum hits, or you can use the included MIDI drum loops in SI drums. those can be accessed by the drop down menus on the left, and can be dragged to the MIDI track with the mouse when you find a beat you like. check the SI drums out on this page http://www.cakewalk.com/products/StudioInstruments/videos.asp

most folks use a midi keyboard to input the midi notes in real time..... you play the kit on the keys.... after hitting record in the track.... look at my web site under the music MC4/5 pages on some other ways to do drums. then there's always Jamstix.... see that on the JS page.

I used some sound absorbing foam to remove the echo

That was weird.... normally Cake doesn't let you post 2 posts within a 2 minute time window.... to prevent stuff like that from happening. I was on the lappy and tapped the touchpad... but I normally get that "you can't post 2 posts" warning come up..... hummmmmmmmmm.

Thanks for the quick advice, guys. I'm slowly getting it sorted out, moving from a standalone hard disk recorder which is literally "plug in & play", to something rather more complex.

I used one of the standalone hard disks..... for about 2 months..... didn't like it at all... D-1600 Korg..... I bought it on Ebay and sold it back on Ebay and bought MC4....loving it ever since.
