Thanks for the overwhelming positive responses on this song. I think it's a testament to the mastery of the musicians in Deep Purple and how a nearly 40 year old song still makes you go "wow". They truly don't write them like this any more. Bit, I've corrected your Hammond XK-1 in the description. Thanks for the additional info on how you achieved your sounds. Just for the record, Randy absolutely could hit those high notes. I asked him to NOT do them, because if any of you have heard Randy cut loose, well let me just say if I wanted a school girl to sing this song I would have hired one. A side note about the slide guitar - The original song has a harmonica solo at that part. None of us play the harmonica so I mimicked some of the harmonica phrasing from the original with the slide and think it worked out well.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments about this song. This was a gas to work with Mark on, as I could tell this song meant something special to him. While I did try and stay somewhat true to the original vocal, some of those notes were just plain crazy and even with my little school girl skirt and pressed white shirt, I just couldn't pull them off, even though I looked cute as a bug! Mark, I knew in my heart you would really nail this song, mainly because it only contains 3 chords and mostly required you to play only 1 string at a time. Right in your wheelhouse buddy. Nice job. Thanks Randy, and if anyone's glad it only had 3 chords it's me. Truth be told, I had to punch in the lead one note at a time. We really should do another song together, just not anytime soon.

Well this was a pleasant surprise...i loved this song way back then....so i have a few little gripes but not too serious...It didn`t quite have the feel of the original Lazy kinda like you guy`s did it MIDI(which as you know i do) and randy didn`t have that little raunch in his voice like Gillan( sorry Randy you were just to smooth for me) and finally you missed the whole iconic/epic part ...yes that`s right where the hell was the HARMONICA....... but other than that great job guys.
Whoa.... to you ...oh...earth and sea... for the devil sends the beast with wrath..... because he knows the time is short..... let him who hath understanding..... reckon the number of the beast..... for it is a human number... it`s number is..... 666 So if JESUS rose from the DEAD Does that mean he`s the ORIGINAL ZOMBIE?

Tony, thanks for checking this one out. Yeah, I love that Hammond too! Zungle, I know what you mean about Marks guitar chops. After listening to him sometimes, I don't know whether to practice more or just quit. Thanks. Alkie, thanks for your comments. As far as I know, the only midi on this is the drums, but I thought they had a good swing to them. As for my vocals, yeah I didn't go for Gillians style for the plain reason the dude was a one of a kind. I tried to do more of a slow build from smooth to a little rougher. I actually tried to do a harp part, but sheesh, that's alot tougher than it sounds. I think you'll agree Mark's slide work there is pretty tasty, and the original harmonica part wasn't that epic anyways ;). Chinchen, thanks man, we didn't set the bar but we've been known to pass out in the parking lot of a few. Randy

Anything with a B3 is a winner. (I lived and played music in the 60s). Of course I knew going into this that it would be good, and I was not disappointed. A welcomed flashback. Good vocals too. Well played well mixed from my view point. Even on my CWS, it's hot! Daryl
