Bounce to clip - greyed out
Hi, I am trying to bounce several takes (using layers) into a single clip, as I have done a thousand times, but for some reason today the 'bouce to clip' option on the menu is greyed out and not available. Is this a bug or am I missing something really obvious? I am selecting all the clips, right clicking and trying to choose 'bounce to clip'. This is for a guitar solo using Producer 8.5. Thanks!

My guess is that one (or more) clips is locked. I say this because I have this happen to me frequently and then I ahve to remind myself about a locked clip. Maybe that's your situation? best, mike

Thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't seem to be it. I checked the properties of each and none were checked as locked.

You have to have a MIDI track with recorded data selected.

This is actually for a guitar solo, so it's an audio track. I have checked everything I can think of, and this is a function I use all the time when comping a solo. I am stuck!

I don't have another suggestion, but if it was me... I'd try to bounce some smaller sub set of the clips and narrow down which clip may be causing trouble... that is or course, if some clip is causing trouble. Good Luck, mike

The only way I can make it do what you are describing is if the now cursor happens to be sitting at a place on the track where there is no clip and a section of the track selected (eg at measure 1 if there is no audio starting there) then even if you select the track there are no clips selected when you select the track and the bounce to clips is greyed out. If you happen to have the track minimized you may not notice that. Make sure all the clips/layers you want to bounce are black. Don't know if that is whats happening to you but is the only way I can make it happen. Lorne

As a temporary workaround, you can easily Ctrl + Shift + Drag the clips you want bounced into an empty track, then once they're all in place - bounce to clip from there.

This is definitely a recurring issue for me - you are not imagining this. I have reported this on the forum as well within the last 6 months. I've done thousands of these bouncedowns as well in every version of Sonar to date (translation: I'm very familiar with bouncing clips and tracks), and every once in awhile the bounce to clips and bounce to track gets grayed out. Project plays fine but if you select all on the project or any subset of clips/tracks, you can't do anything with it. I've gotten around it in the past by opening up a new project, recording a quick clip, bouncing that one, re-opening the track with the problem and the options come back without any changes to the project. Unfortunately, I got it again today while I was under the gun for a project and couldn't bounce anything. I've restarted cakewalk, rebooted, and as of now, nothing is getting around this. Even projects that I've got bouncedowns from earlier today won't let me do it now. This IS a bug, just very infrequent.

Try disabling audio metronome (both playback and recording). Sound weird but this works for me!

Update. I tried to export to get something out the door, and found I the export to audio option was grayed out as well. Reboots and restarts weren't helping. In desperation, I started Sonar holding down the shift key, which resets some of the settings, and it seems to have kick-started it back into working again. I'd like this to go away. I found my old tech report (not a forum post as I said before).

The either you don't have an audio clip selected (unlikely) or Sonar doesn't think you have one selected. Is the track frozen or archived, perhaps?

Thanks for the heads up, Panup. Confirmed that the metronome is the culprit (or at least that turning off the record metronome solves this). When bouncing down a preview of a project, I utilize the transport/spacebar to locate my cursor to a spot just before the section I want to bounce. Under certain conditions, this action indeed greys out all of the bounce/export options even when legitimate bounce-able/ exportable sections are selected.

As soon as I changed the count in measures from '1' to '0' I noticed the screen flickered and then the bounce to clip option was available. Phew!
