Bass Traps

So Over the weekend I made a 6' x 4' frame , and for the time being I hung in place above my work station, Temporary  , positioned on an angle ,
just to dry fit it to see .. I temporary thumb tacked studio foam in side , I had bought 20 yards of Burlap, just made some curtains and I left enough to cover the 6'x4' ceiling trap as I planned . I intend to remove the studio foam ,or should I? or should I stuff it with Insulation? An Older studio I had years ago I had made my traps out of Periwrinkle in the conners I stuffed it with insulation and for the ceiling , Just had the frame wrapped with periwrinkle. Im thinking I need some absorption .

most "studio foam" is not used for the same purpose as the traps made with OC703 or other insulation type absorbers.  most studio foam is basically just going to reduce early reflections while traps made with insulation like OC703 or rockwool will absorb broadband frequencies.

I agree with Beagle that Owens Corning or Rockwool is essential for a broadband absorber.

The other thing you may consider is using 2 foot by 4 foot  panels. They'll fit more easily across corners and it's likely the insulation will come in slabs to suit. Also spreading your absorbers around the room will give better results than just treating a couple of areas.

I don't think you'll get as good results with fiber board as you will with rigid slabs of Owens Corning or Rockwool.

My panels have 4 inches of Rockwool fixed to a frame that gives them a 2 inch gap behind the insulation. They work very well.

Awesome Pics Beagle.. Like the traps you built , Great video too Eden, when I said fiber board I was referring to the Owens Corning that you used in those pics.. But Im going to use it as a ceiling trap above me, for my corner traps I am using  studio foam wedges , My room isn't acousticly sound  , nor is it square room , which is the only good thing , My speakers are set in the middle of the room , and are different distance's from the walls, which I done on purpose,So I dont get a phasing out sound going on, Im not looking for sound proofing but a more accurate flat sound. without unwanted reverb, ect. I have my make shift ceiling trap up now , with the studio foam thumb tacked . and I do notice more bass and I can really hear a difference ,  Heading to Home depot now to look for the owens Corning..

Question, Beagel.  Did your wife put little metal rings (I think they're called grommets) in the burlap to provide a stable place to thread the twine (string ... whatever was used on the back) through?  The pictures aren't quite close-up enough for me to see that level of detail.  Nice job, by the way.  Functional, stable and attractive all at the same time.
