Can't Upgrade to DP 1.5

I have Dimension Pro 1.2 on my system.  when I try to upgrade to 1.5, it says I have the wrong version, that I must install version 1.2 (which is already installed)  Any ideas?

Maybe we have the DXI versions installed and that is the problem.
If so, should I dig out my Dimension Pro disks and install the VST version?
Will I need to reinstall all the sample data and expansion packs too?

    Please try the following:

    -  Insert you original Dimension Pro DVD disk 1
    -  Cancel the auto-launch installer
    -  Go to My Computer and Select "Explore" on your DVD
    -  Drag the DimensionProSetup.exe to your desktop
    -  Launch the installer from your desktop (this will install Dimension Pro without the content).
    -  Make sure that you install both DXi and VSTi
(It will show a warning that it can't load a few content files a few times, just click OK and proceed/finish the install)
    -  Download and run the Dimension Pro 1.2 update
    -  Install both the DXi and VSTi
    -  Now try running the 1.5 patch again.

Hang on a minute I'll try it and see.....................

EDIT: Nope didn't work.  Even though I try to do a custom install without the multisamples it still tries to install them...........after about 5 minutes I gave up..... twice.

So we have to to install 1.2 from dvd...install 1.2 again and then install 1.5 ?  Hardly an elegante update path for a .3 update.  Can't we just get a 1.5 that installs over whatever 1.2 we have?

That message does not prevent you from proceeding with the update. Just don't click on Cancel.

I've tried that but Dim Pro still shows 1.2 in Sonar.

Even when you load it as a VSTi rather than a DXi?

If it shows up as 1.5 in the Standalone Microhost then you are incorrectly still choosing the DXi version in Sonar.

Don't forget to rescan the VST plugins from the Plugin Manager after installing.  The make sure you are selecting the VSTi version in Sonar.

The older DXi version is retained for backward compatibilty with projects you may already have that use the DXi plug therefore it will continue to show the old version number.

Install the 1.2 update that's downloadable from the Dimension Pro support page and make sure you install the VST version. Then, run the 1.5 update and browse to the your VST folder, and then, you may be promted to browse to the exact location where the Dimension Pro VST .dll is located.

After that the 1.5 update should update properly. It did for me, but the key is to have the 1.2 VST version installed before running the 1.5 update.

And as Jonbouy points out, make sure you are loading the VST version of Dim Pro in SONAR. If loading via the synth rack, that would be the Dim Pro name in the lower section of the list of softsynths.

Did all that more than once.  I've got a a ton of vsti plugins and I've done a million updates over the years.  I don't think I've ever actually given up and skipped an update until tonight.  I just realized I've spent more time tonight trying to update Dim Pro than I've spent using the synth since I got the 8.5 update and I can't even remember what the 1.5 features and fixes are............

Ahh well too bad my 1.5 update is working fine...

Seriously though I did have trouble installing to any folder other than the default Cakewalk/Vstiplugins folder as for some reason Sonar wasn't picking it up on a VST scan.

But you'll know when it's gone on properly as the microhost executable will appear in the same folder as the VSTi dll.

Following these exact steps is what got me going, but then as you point out you're more experienced at this lark than me, so what do I know?...

Ok I figured it out this morning.  I have two Dim Pro installations.  One in the Cakewalk vst folder and one in my main Vst folder that all my other programs use which is the one that got updated.  Sonar was still seeing ver 1.2 that's in the CW vst folder. Copied over the 1.5.dll and it seems to be working now.
