to be honest I think it just boils down to a crappy soundcard...

Im getting better recording results using MME 32 bit, rather than WKM or WASAPI

Out - 2x 44.1-192kHz, 32 bits (audio output)
In  -  2x 44.1-96kHz, 16 bits (mic input)
In 2 x 44.1-96khz, 16 bits (audio stereo input)

at the moment ASIO buffer size is set to 2048 sample... but i don't think this makes any difference, doesn't work whatever samplee rate it.

at latency compensaion:
in - 704 campls
out - 768 samples

I don't think this matters though... does it?

Also Im' pretty sure it's not being used by something else... i mean what else would be using it!? Im only runnning cakewalk...

I mean, can someone just please answer this though, and it may be a really simple question....

why do I hear Crackling on WDM and WASAPI and not crackling on MME?!

And its crackling both on playback of my recorded guitar AND session drummer 3 (if when I play it live)

It makes MME sound like well amazing

It's because MME is designed to work with the lowest level soundcards that are not capable of demanding tasks.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I gave you one in my gear post. The M-Audio Fast Track Pro should be a great starter interface.

ok dude, and one final final question that came up in my head when you posted it,

did you say you used the JVM410 to record bass?
I have a separate bass amp - (fender rumble) which aint as good, you would recommended recording all bass tracks using the JVM?

Recording a bass amp can be a little tricky so I would say just go direct instead of recording the bass amp. Use the guitar amp if you want to add effects or distortion. Having a distorted amp track along with a direct bass track can sound awesome if it is what the song needs. You're just going to need a way to get all of that into your computer and mic.

Here is my list of sound cards that I like. I covered internal (PCI and PCIe) USB and Firewire in my list. Thes all work great with Sonar!

I think the mag could have been EQ or Sound On Sound which also have discussion forums.
If you are serious about learning you should start reading those mags as well as pick up a few books that delve into the "why" you would use this mike or that stomp box stuff. There are way to many loose opinions and you have a steep learning curve ahead. But its a great hobby and much less dangerous than hang gliding.
I personally don't recommend trying to make a living unless you have monster business savvy. Keep your day job son.

I can just make out Slash on the front cover in writing... was a good mag!

Yeh the recording studio not really a business venture, In fact I can't really see a recording studio having great returns if your letting out for hire to public

in the aiso4all box there should be a list of the audio devices in your comp, with check boxes to enable or disable devices, it should work, thats what the driver is for, audio processors(like on board sound) that dont have native asio drivers
