Hi guys! Hey Rob, Herb, I've been a little dense lately. Rob, I sent you a PM with the ID and PW for Teamviewer. Something else that occured to me, and that is that I just need a decent recording program that will allow me to record anything from 5 minutes up to as much as 2 - 3 hours without interruption, and the ability to edit, and alter dynamics. As I said before, I have an Alesis MM8 as the USB interface. I don't do much recording these days, but when I do, I figure I'd get something that would cover the spectrum. Most of the recording I do is through the sound system I have. The weakest part of that is the active speakers that I have - Samson XP200. Yeah, I know that they're not great, but when you don't do this for a living, and have a limited budget, you use what you can. The other two key items of the system are a Ramsa WRS 4412, and Driverack PA for speaker treatment. You may not be familiar with Ramsa, but it's the commercial division of Panasonic. Sadly, they no longer sell in the US. I was turned on to them by a man who became a friend, and did professional sound, staging, and lighting. He was also a dealer for Ramsa for some time. Love the console (I also have a WRS 208 board as well, but don't use it much anymore). Great stuff they have and it really is an example of getting more "bang for your buck". Occasionally you can find used stuff on Ebay which is where I got my big board. BTW, should I decide to go for it, got any ideas for a direct USB interface without the mixer that has balanced input with either 1/4" phone jacks or XLR connectors?

I have always been on a budget, and it takes me a long time to acquire stuff so I am a bit pickey about what i get. Like you said not for a living! I use a Yamaha board thru a M-Audio sound card into the software on a hand built computer that i built about 6 years ago now.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

Five minutes, (usually) no problem.
But trying to record for several hours with a Windows OS could be a problem. I believe there is some kind of limit on how long, or how big a file, Windows can record. Anyone know the particulars?
Editing, easy. Split, copy and paste, moving clips by the tiniest amounts either forward or back.
You can insert volume envelopes to change any parts of the song that are too loud or soft.

yes, but I'll have to find them again.  it will depend on your bit and sample rate because the limitation is the file size.

Hmm... looks like 4 GB (although some programs have a 2-4 GB limit), which according to Wiki is 6.8 hours using CD standard 44.1 kHz @ 16-bit.

Yes, I believe it is File size limited. I recall that the maximum size for FAT-32 was just under 4 Gig (FAT32 is (2^32)-1 bytes ), but many programs have a 2 Gig limitation by design. NTFS which is what most PC's use today don't appear to have a system file size restriction, which is something I wasn't aware of until now.
Thus, the file size limit will probably be a function of the program generating it and I haven't found what that size is for Cakewalk products.

No, the problem with Cubase, was with Cubase LE and was apparently a glitch in the program that was seen over and over again. In my case, going up to SE3 seemed to solve the problem. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it was something like "audio engine out of sync" and it would just stop recording. The weird thing was that there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it as it could go a minute or so, or it could go over an hour before it happened. I'm not going to spend money on a new version of Cubase, but for now, I think I can get away with using MC4. Right now, we aren't doing anything more than maybe a half hour. BTW, thanks to Rob, the problem for me has been solved. Hey it turned out to be real simple, the timing masters weren't set. Yay Rob!!!!!!!

It is easy to fix when you know what you are looking for, and so much gets lost in printed help instructions. I have seen a large jump in the ability to help others with screen prints and pictures. Plus the teamviewer thing makes is nice cause you can watch it get fixed and learn from it.
