Interest in Steven Slate Drums in Session Drummer Format?

Please see this thread at the Steven Slate Forums: Expansions for Sonar?

Steven is asking for input as to interest in having other Slate Drum products available in SD3 format.  What do you all think about it?

Personally - I'm all for it.  His drums are wonderful products as they are, but availability in SD3 format would be great as well.

I'm interested. I think he missed a trick not being one of the elite packs.
As long as it's integrated into SD3 and it's a full package ie same as the EX packs quantity, then it's got legs.

There already is interest. But I kind of feel like you need to offer the product first. There were many posts about the SS stuff bundled with 85 was a plus for many. Including myself. So I think the poll has already been taken.
I for one though have no interest in Metal, if that's all that's offered.
    Otherwise Yes......

The ones I've tried sound really good, so yes I'm interested. I'm not a drummer so the input of drummers would be the kicker. When you can get a noticeably better drum sound from SD3 and a Steven Slate kit, it should spark your interest. I like the Led Zep kit myself.

Slightly OT: I am (still) waiting for my S85.PE to arrive (upgrade from S7PE). I was thinking about getting EZ Drummer (along with the Nashville expansion: I've used Jamstix 2 a lot but I don't like the interface and the way it works: way too complicated), but I wonder if SD3 with the supplied new kits is good enough to NOT buy EZD...? How does SD3 compare to EZD?

Anyway, to get back OT: I like the idea of making extra expansions, specially at that nice price ($ 49)! ;) I only know the Led Zep kit from Youtube movies so far, but it sounds cool already. It's that kit that made me think I might be better off NOT spending 200 euro on EZD plus Nashville...! (This hobby is costing me more than enough already... ;) )

I don't think you'll regret having EZD plus Nashville. Don't be taken aback by the "Nashville" title. The kit is capable of many genres, not just "Country"...Consider it another "tool" in your arsenal of "what capabilities does my studio offer"...

The included SD3 kit sounds good and I've got plenty of drums. It'll always get some stick from the masses because it's 'session drummer' but it's very usable and a good sound. I do however prefer my own midi files going through it.

EZDrummer and Nashville is a great way to go. Nashville is their best EXP pack (soundwise) in my opinion. Having EzDrummer (pop drums), Nashville (medium rock drums) and the Led Zep kit (rock but not metal drums)will mean you've got most rock and pop genres covered and with a bit of tweaking here and then you can cover it all. Then upgrade to SD2.2 because that's great.

Something like Addictive Drums may appeal as it covers a large spectrum in one affordable package.

A lot of drum packages have add-ons and it can all get a bit pricey.

I know Nashville is more than country and that it's the best pack: that's why I thought about getting it. ;)

SD2.2 is Superior Drummer, I suppose? I think that's a bit too much for me... I like 'already processed' instruments that are simple to use out of the box, like Nashville, which sounds great without having to add all kinds of effects (compression, etc.). Maybe SD2.2 is like that too, but it's another 100 euro to extra, so... that's a bit too much, specially since I was hoping to spend no money at all and simply use SD3. ;) (The abbreviations can get confusing... SD3 looks like a follow up to SD2.2... :P ) EZD comes with a LOT of great and ready to use midi files of course... (Is it possible to use those midi files with SD3...?)

Well, I think I'll just wait until S8.5PE arrives and I can give SD3 and the Led Zep kit a try myself.

And btw sorry for hijacking this topic...! ;)

Yes - I am totally in favor of this.

Since I use Sonar, I would prefer to use my drum kits within the SD2/SD3 environment instead of loading a new player. The whole Kontact player that comes with Steven Slate drums (which I own) just isn't my first choice for interfaces, but a big YES to the kits for Sonar.

    Hi there,

I have owned Slate Drums for quite a while now and I think that anything that Steven would provide in
the SD3 format would be loved by most folks here.  (especially at those prices!)

His drums are designed to "sit in the mix" and most of the preset kits and individual drums are processed just right to do so.  Very little tweaking needed at mixdown as opposed to other drum libraries.

The support from Steven and his staff is way good too.

Oh, and, um, uh.......... The sounds are great!  You'd swear that they are real drums played
by a real drummer.  With real sticks.  With real mics even.  I'm a drummer and use Steven's stuff with
an electric kit and I am blown away.  It's so much fun to play when yer instrument sounds like
    you've always imagined it could.

I could ramble on forever and probably will if someone doesn't stop me.....

    Oh yeah, Hi Steven!

Much like Cakewalk and one of my other favorite products, Jamstix (Ralph at Rayzoon) - I like Steven Slate Drums because of Steven's record for being open and available on his support forums and other places on the web.  He listens to his clients, he responds to their concerns, and he provides answers to questions about his products.  What more can you ask for in a company.

Hell yeah, I would appreciate more of Steven's samples for SD3.  It's Steven's samples that sold me on SD3 alone.  I have been using them exclusively!  I think they are the best and would gladly pay for expansion packs as often as they become available.

    Kind regards,

The Steven Slate sounds are really quite good.  I've been using the OldZepkit for all my new projects.

I would definitely be interested in purchasing additional Steven Slate sounds for Session Drummer 3.
