Re:C++ Runtime Error in Sonar 8.5.3 after installing X1

Thanks for answering my question. As warned in Ghostbusters, do not cross the streams. I have 8.5.3 running without a tick or bop on my DAW. Installed X1a (ugly) on video workstation (980x with UA25 USB interface). That was ugly. Installed X1b and it works decently but under no load. Did a 4 track demo without a hitch other than re-learning the X1 interface. Will keep 8.5.3 install clean and wait a little longer for the C++ dance to settle down. Learning Cubase 6 as well which is very interesting Cheers.

I was having the c++ runtime issue but it seemed to be related to the Sonitus delay memory leak. After replacing the dll with a known good one, I haven't seen the error. X1b has fixed that problem in the update.

Ok, my runtime errors may be resolved now. As mentioned before, I was getting numerous C++ Runtime errors (with accompanying crashes), Kontakt 4 said there was a problem with the install and couldn't insert, and when I reinstalled Kontakt and tried to run the vst scanner it would terminate on a kernel32.dll error. I used the vst scan error as my test after each thing I tried (running vst scanner to see if it failed). First I installed the visual C runtime package referenced above but scan still would not run. I uninstalled and reinstalled X1 (with patches) and still wouldn't work. I ran Registry Mechanic to see if it could find and resolve a dll error but vst scanner still wouldn't complete. Finally, I noticed where the vst scanner was crashing (kind of hard because you had to look fast before the error message cleared the window) and it was crashing on a Line6 file. As mentioned earlier I wondered if there was a conflict caused when I recently switched from a Toneport UX2 to the M-Audio Fasttrack audio interface. I thought I'd cleaned everything out regarding the drivers and so forth, but there were dll's left behind in the VST folder. I deleted them and the scan completed and I was able to insert Kontakt in to projects again. Also no crashes since then though I plan to put it through the wringer tonight. Now, I'm skeptical that just deleting the Line6 dll's could have fixed what were horrendous problems last week and am wondering if just using the vst scanner as the test was faulty methodology on my part, maybe one of the earlier things I tried fixed the actual runtime problems but since I was only testing by running the vst scanner I wasn't seeing the whole picture? Not sure, but posting here in case anyone has anything to add or if it helps someone else out. I'm just happy to be able to work again. Jon

I've applied the C++ fix above, and that has calmed that issue down. ScanVST has long been a pain for me. Resetting / rescanning usually makes things much worse for a time and then requires repeated scans/resets to try to get all of my plugins redetected. I've got XP 32 bit SP3 and have been working with the CW tech support on this. I think I've got the exact same Kontakt 4 issue mentioned above resolved. It was working fine in 8.5, Ableton, Standalone, etc. but acting wonky in X1 (failed to load on startup of existing projects, but could be loaded into a new project). Once I reloaded Kontakt 4 from DVD and then the Kontakt 4 patch, then reset/rescanned VST's a few times, it started behaving, but then Omnisphere started doing the same thing--wouldn't load in existing projects and wasn't available to be added to new ones either. Arggggggh. It sure would be nice to have some feedback and logging on what succeeds/fails during the ScanVST process. The checkboxes make no sense--"Scan failed plugins" and "scan existing plugins". I think my existing plugins are failing to load or are loading "wrong", so are they existing or failing? I'm simply trying to make them existing AND working, but if I leave "existing" checked, the process drags on for 5+ minutes each time. I have some plugins that fail to show up in my list no matter what checkboxes I check, but running ScanVST 5-6 times usually kickstarts it and it eventually shows up with no other changes on my end. Needless to say, this process makes me absolutely dread adding/updating VST's because it more often kills an hour or two of dull frustration looking at the "scanning..." progress box again and again and again. This whole time they continue to work fine in Ableton Live with no fuss, no muss. ScanVST is way overdue for an overhaul.

So this C++ error does not happen in Windows 7 correct? only XP? I just turned my main studio machine into a dual-boot system by adding a SSD with 64bit Win7 Pro SP 1 & installed Sonar 8.5.3 a few days ago.. I would just like to make sure that X1c is not going mess up anything I got going with 8.5.3.. Thanks in advance!
