I agree that the ability to save and load individual SS would be great and should be implimented. I still think that they are light years in front of layouts though. If CW bring back layouts, which I doubt they will I only hope it's not at the expense of SS. AFAICT SS can do everything the old layouts could (except the aforementioned save/load) and much more besides. They just expand on that principal in many useful ways. I've already incorporated the ability to have different snap to settings and zoom levels into my workflow. I will be extremely miffed if they take any of that ability away. I still think once people stop thinking in the old layout way and get their heads around the possibilities of screensets they will find them more than useful. IMHO of course............ EDIT:Screensets can be named BTW. I have several TV View - Audio Record - PRV 1 - PRV 2 etc etc. It's an option in the SS menu. To get the best out of them you really have to learn the power of the lock & unlock and assigning a keybinding to that helps greatly.

John I would like to discuss screensets a little further...... Layouts can be named. Screensets are not. John - much respect for your review as it very much matches my own experience and opinions about X1 so far. (Not sure if you noticed, from your comment above, it sounds like you may not be aware, that..) Screensets can be renamed (from the pulldown menu) - so you could for example have a "Composition" Screenset with the browser inspector and softsynth GUIS on 1 display with Track View and the PRV on the other. And a "Mixing" Screenset with the console view on the second Display... or whatever. <EDIT> FBB beat me to it....

I am not sure that is a screenset name but a view name within the screenset. In fact the screenset would have to have the name of the project. Layouts had a name because they were saved.

John I am not sure that is a screenset name but a view name within the screenset. In fact the screenset would have to have the name of the project. Layouts had a name because they were saved. Not the case - When setting up a template file, rename the screenset to whatever you want, then lock it and save the Template. Start a new project, then go the the Screenset menu and you should have an option at the bottom to Import Screensets from whatever template you saved the screenset in originally. So if you have a "Mixing" screenset in "John's Basic Template" it will be available for any project from there on. The only catch is the template needs to be opened for X1 to "see" it in the new project. In that respect, I agree that it would be great to have some universality - some library of saved screensets. But I agree with FBB - screensets are very powerful.

I must say I don't think I have ever seen such enthusiasm and willingness to work with any feature in Sonar before. I will take a second look at them. But remember I wouldn't have to if layouts were still around. I could just load them up. LOL Also I like the spirit in how you and FFB are promoting this. You do so in a nice way.

Not on commission, honest! ("Fan boi" status aside.) LOL. I also like the idea of bringing layouts back. I don't think Screensets are a perfect replacement for them. Same can be said for a lot of the changes in X1.

I think it can safely be said I'm a 'Fanboi' of screensets LOL..... At the risk of repeating myself if CW come up with an individual Save/Load feature IMHO they will be almost perfect....
