Listening on the Ultrasones...

First off, I love the song: sounds really well written, and you sang it real fine. I really love the first 30 seconds, when I thought this was one of the best things I have heard on the forum in quite some time. The piano was absolutely terrific. Then....
  • Drums sound great, but the snare is just too heavy for the verses. It is even a bit heavy for the chorus when the guitars come in. The hats are also on the same side (on the right? Is Darren a lefty?) as the lead, so they clash freq-wise, and are way out of balance volume-wise.
  • +1 on the reverb on the vocal issue. Sounds like there is both a slap echo and a longer plate, but the plate is too short and too big, if you know what I mean.
  • bass is kinda indistinct some of the time. Warren, you played the heck out of it, but when everyone is going with you, it gets a little lost and muddy.
  • the "coming around" line 2:00 needs some more 2 pole filter on it to separate it from the lead vocal
  • bgvox also needs some eq job to also separate them from the lead vocal
  • lyrically, there a ton of great ideas, but they just don't seem to tie together all that well.  I listened four times and I am not sure the connection between the rain, the redlight, the guy, the leather. Individually, like I said, great, but there almost sounds like there was a unifying verse that got dropped (made me think of the Elton John  song "Daniel," where the last verse, which actually makes sense out of the whole tune, got dumped, and should have been left in.)

I am a lefty, but I actually play drums right-handed, with the hi-hat on the left. But the drums for this tune were sent by me as a stereo track with the hat mixed to the right, like you're listening from in front of the drums. I can send all the drum tracks (8) separate and dry for remixing purposes, too. Dena (Venus) just recently sent me a demo track where she used my separate, dry drum tracks to work her editing magic. It was quite cool. Thanks for the comments!

Whoa singer is excellent! Really like her voice. I like the mix too its sounding good. Solo is tasty as hell.
This kinda has a more 'pop-y' Joss Stone vibe as the song progresses.
I enjoyed it.

There is only one small thing that annoyed me and its that I think the final cymbal hit should be removed, just let the piano end the song? Personal preference but I think it would give it a much improved, softer ending?

Mark (Rhyno)-  Thanks for listening and your comments!

Scotty- Will is monitoring the board from Afghanistan so he is getting all of these suggestions.  He said to say he appreciates it!!!

Vechung- We appreciate your thoughts and taking the time to listen.  Thanks!!

Tap- Thanks a bunch!!!  Nice to see you.  (Oh wait, it's me that's been away).  :-)

Tim-  Thanks for the thoughts.  They are all taken seriously.

DaPogue- Rotsa fun!  Thanks for commenting and for your ideas.  If you get a chance to listen on different speakers, please let me know.   I think you have my email.

Joshua-  Thanks, man,  it was fun!!

J-YoYo-  Thanks for the in-depth analysis.  I'm sure it will help Will a bunch.   He is actually doing the mixing, etc,  on a laptop in a tent in Afghanistan.  Considering the distractions (bombs, rockets, etc) it amazes me he can get anything done!  :-)   Thanks, again, for taking the time to listen and analyze as much as you did!  I know that takes time!!

Grant- You old devil you.  When are we going to do another tune?  :-)  That was a lot of fun.   Thanks for listening and commenting.  Eeryone involved appreciates it.  OH, your solos on Armageddon were awesome!!

Adji- Thankls for listening.  We appreciate your suggestions too!

Frank-  Glad you liked it.  Thanks!
