Paul, if you can be serious for two minutes...

so this is supposed to help you find local students?  And they come to you in person?  And the website gets a cut of your fees?  I guess that would help if students wouldn't otherwise find you.  I guess I would think posters, word-of-mouth, Craigslist, etc. would be just as good.

But then, this is the age of the internet, and it can't hurt.

Yeah, it sort of had me wondering...

So what would be the distance limit then? Or is that up to each teacher listed?

But then, this is the age of the internet, and it can't hurt.

well if you  google "name of local city" such as Chicago - then "drum lessons" -- -
"chicago drum lessons" - Take lessons.com will pop some where on the first page - in my searches anyway

then on takelessons.com  - type in the name of instrument you want to learn and zip code and teacher profiles come up and you get hired through them

the rate for my area is 15 bucks for 30 minutes

Teacher has to fill out application and have a bachlor degree in music - they  do a background check on the teacher  and I had about a 30 minute interview -

also you have to go to a 45 minute webinar orientation

they get you the students and you get paid through them -

they have said I will have between 2-7 students in teh next 30 days and build of of that -

thats the basics - and this web site tool is nation wide

it's free  -  you have to be hired - you dont have to pay anything - they pay you -

you have a contact that they go over in the webinar  -  basically its a year commitment to the students they give you

However - you are allowed to puruse students on your own or work for other music companies - as well -

PS - supposedly - according to them  - they only hire about 8% of the teachers that apply and I am supposedly the cream of the crop -- according to them

but if you want more students - apply - its not hard  - cant hurt -

Wow!  3 minutes!  (j/k)

So you get the whole $15?  Well, that's not a bad deal at all then.

I guess I knew teachers in Waukesha who worked at the White House of Music (actually it was a tad east of Waukesha, but I don't remember the name of that town...it's just a long highway between there and Milwaukee and I couldn't tell where one city ended.  Anyway.... students just signed up at the White House of Music and the teachers were assigned the students.  I think they got paid decently, but of course, some of it went to the WHM.  I guess it's about the same thing.

I put an ad in the paper this summer advertising for lessons.  One man called, from 45 minutes away.  He wanted to know if they'd need a piano.
Oh well....

I couldn't agree more...

We all know what the internet's like - you post a picture portraying yourself as a middle-aged man

but when you actually meet up you find out it's a twenty year old nymphomaniac lady of the opposite sex.

Psst... Mooch, can I book up a few lessons so you can show me how to play an Am note?

You have to ask Bapu about that -- he is the inventor of playing the Am note - I am still trying to master that one myself

"just apply - it doesn't take that long"

Well, I don't have a degree in music.  And it's hard enough to get students to pay my low rate.  But it's still a cool idea. :-)

Mooch, I hope you know I was just kidding about the creepy factor, but you should see about getting a better picture up on the website. It looks like you're watching mudwrestling with some wierd looking dude behind you wearing suspenders. Jus sayin!

Randy

The thing is .... I actually do have a real picture of me watching mud wrestling with a transvestite looking at me with suspenders holding up his thong  -

maybe that pic would be better ?

HAHAHA

on a serious note  -

I have to take a better head shot I know - and you can ad video and audio to the profile - and there is some typos and things I need to fix but for some reason I cant get to that part of the profile -

I have to call them Monday morning and get at least the typos fixed - and have someone take a better pic and get some audio up there

its all on the "gonna happen" soon agenda

thanks Randy

Mooch, I WANT to have 40 students and be able to quit all my other jobs. And I want them to pay me $50/half hour.

No, better yet:  I don't want any students and I just want them to pay me that anyway.  Can you find me a website for that?

One thing I've learned in this life.  If you want $50 an hour for doing something, then charge that much.  Otherwise you'll get $15 an hour.

My attorney charges $250 and hour. I have an account with her that has  $1000 bucks in it

so every week she emails me a bill telling me how much she worked on my case and how much she took out of my $1000 account

I'll see something like -- Drafted letter faxed and mailed to Board of Ed.    20 minutes - $83.20  was removed from your account

and I am thinking - you worked on my case this week for 20 minutes at 250 an hour

if I was an attorney I would be all like -- yeah -- I was on the phone and writing letters for 12 hours today  total $3000  ........$2000 must be added to your account to fulfill your debit obligation

hahaha

no really

glad she is honest
