Yeah John, I upgraded MC5 to version 5.0.5.6 which if I understand correctly, also upgrade CSC to 1.1 which I believe happened since I also had newer instruments in it that were not present before the upgrade.

After the upgrade I went through and reinstalled Steinway and World just to be sure..... I then opened CSC and I saw and am now able to play the Steinways.... but the World instruments are still not showing.

I have someone PM'ing me and also Cake support has sent ONE email which suggested the upgrade. I have replied that world is still MIA and have not heard back yet.

I also ran into the issue with the old files having to be selected and saved under the new CSC ver 1.1

OK Herb, well it sounds like you have a lot of things working as far as the basic MC5 upgrade and its SC1.1 - we're on the same page and that's cool!     Not at all sure why you still are unable to see and access your World sounds, as there was no difference at all between installing them and installing Steinway.  Seems that something went wrong in between the time you installed the first one and then the second.

You might try:  can you go to your control panel add/remove programs and see each of the two new plug-ins?  If so, do a clean removal of World, and then try reinstalling that one.  If I'm not mistaken, I was looking in my Add/Remove (equivilent screen) on my Win7 x64 system and they were both there as separate programs.  That might give you a better re-install then to just install it over top.   Seemsm to me like you're very close though, to being all set up.   Let me know if you hear any other help from CW, because I STILL have not received any actual email from them regarding the registrations, even though I got an initial automated mail saying they had received my request and would respond in a day or two.  It's been like, 4 days.

Let me know if i can help at all; if we need to hook up by phone during an evening I'm very happy to try to help - you've helped me beyond measure countless times recently!   I'll send you my number in a PM in case you don't have it anymore.  I can at least look at my own screens and let you know what I see and where, and maybe talk you through some steps we can try.

Cake tech thinks something is corrupted in MC5 CSC so...the advice, which I am working on as I write this is to remove all vestages of MC5 from the DAW and reinstall from square 1 .... upgrade to 5.0.5.6 and install the packs.

I'll keep you posted on the success or not of this.

OK Herb that's cool, hope that fixes it - but I also thought of one other possible source.  Remember how you had a lot of problems with your order initially - perhaps your download copy of the World Sounds was corrupt.  You may want to go back to the link and download a fresh copy of that one, especially if reinstalling MC5 doesn't solve it.  Cause to my way of thinking, if the Steinway batch DID work OK, then your MC5 and SC1.1 should be OK.  What may NOT be OK is your copy of the World sounds.  Just food for thought ok.  Good luck on the reload!

MC 5 reinstall did not solve it. Possible that the DL file is corrupted..... so I'll load it again from the web server.

Just out of curiosity.... I decided to see if I could install the new stuff on my old lappy. First... upgrade MC5.... ok that's done, check MC5... it works and the new stuff in CSC is there as well.

Now.... first install Steinburg Pianos...... OK... check...OK they are there.

Next install World instruments (WI) ....OK ....wait.... file corrupted error message. cancel..... now copy just the new download from the zip to the desk top...just the file installer..... run again..... this time it goes all the way..... OK....open MC5 & CSC.... open type..... other...... shazzammmmm! it's all there....

SO..... there is some sort of problem with the install in the new DAW..... I'm thinking I might try to copy the folders from this lappy DAW to the zip drive and paste them over the DAW files......

I will try to copy the entire CSC folder and see if that works..... Yeah.... I'll back it up first and set a new restore point first..... so .... that's the job tomorrow.

Looks like we'll both be busy tomorrow   as I'm installing the Sonar PE 8.5 package, and all its updates, etc.
I'm a tad puzzled by your note, Herb, because you mentiond that when you tried the install to your old laptop, you DID have a corruption of the World sounds file.  Installing from the newly-downloaded one worked.  Why wouldn't you just reinstall that new World download file then, on your new DAW and see if that resolves the issue?  Sorry if I missed something - I'm just going step by step as you documented.  I'm not sure if your copying the entire folder over might not disturb something else?   I'd try to be as narrow in the re-install as possible.   Just a thought - best of luck and let us know!  Wow it sure takes awhile sometimes to get 1 or 2 new plug-ins downloaded and working properly, huh!!!  What we all go through for this addiction!

I did load that file from the zip drive first to the new DAW.... it failed to load properly....

the lappy ...first tried from the folder, then pulled the file to the desk top and it ran from there OK.... more things to try as I wait on Cake's response.

EDIT: all is good on the laptop. Both new instruments work fine and play. The desktop is still not happy. I tried to copy the files from the lappy to a zip and install them in the proper folders. I renamed the existing files and folders as needed to avoid conflicts of 2 files with the same name...... still not working. This has me stumped. It acts like it installs OK but then nothing new shows up in the CSC.....

At least Lowes delivered the new dryer today. And that works fine.

wow Herb, that's a killer.  Sounds like you're going to need to maybe retrace even further back and uninstall/reinstall.   I'm really disappointed in how neither of us has heard from CW via email.  I know we are just lowly download customers, but gee, how hard IS it to email back a couple of tips to try?  I've had no response either, and my question was a simple yes or no!

Well my schedule calls for me to load Sonar today but as of 9AM here we have had partial power outage at my work facility and I'm awaiting call-in notice so I can go in and bring up half my network....  work, work.  We've had such strong winds here
( > 50mph)  that many power lines and traffic lights are out, and some places lost power to homes and businesses.  So  my day may be wrecked for awhile as far as Sonar.  Glad you got a good dryer man, you have to take the wins where you can get them!     Keep us posted!

Yeah... we had strong winds yesterday. We had a few blinks but kept power. The folks down the road and in Wilson lost it.

I have World working on my lappy, and a few of the instruments are pretty decent. SO..... if push comes to shove, I can load the project in the lappy and record the tracks and bounce it back to the DAW for mixing. How often do you need a Japanese Shamisen?

I will pursue cake's tech for the answer to this.

Why one pack would load and not the other is what has me perplexed.

Herb - there were some FREE Soundcenter packs available for X1 users (I don't remember if they were free for MC as well), but some of them weren't working for those in X1 who downloaded, maybe this will help you as well

I'll have to check that as well.  I wonder, did I have better luck on the downloads and installs because I'm running the x64 Win 7 setup now?  Shouldn't be any different, but we all know how one config is different from another on DAWs.  I really haven't heard yet if anyone else grabbed up these 2 great DLs.

I DID manage to get in some DAW work this weekend!  I pulled up old song projects and redid the SC settings, then went back in and did re-editing and remixing.  I've now got new mixes on 4 of my older songs - Love Is In Your Eyes, Pocketful Of Songs, Take It From Me, and Just The Thought Of You, in case anyone wants to check 'em out.   I'm currently working on new material now and it's great to have everything working well.

Re:Expansion packs for Sound Center - NO REG Numbers needed - for 20 smakers (each) 2011/03/01 13:49:29 (permalink)
All:  Finally, I received an email reply just now from CW, that clarified that no numbers are needed for these two add-ins.  Here is the message in full:

Hello, Thanks for contacting Cakewalk!
The dsf expansions do not require serial number information.

JD,
Beginner at all this... I ordered the Vintage Key expansion, though the download is a problem.  The setup window comes up onec I found it...................it shows in the Music Creator 5 program files. When I open a new project to review the samples no window opens to drag the chosen sample into the track. I have an M-Audio axiom 25 ( keyboard/workstation?)
In my accounts section of Cakewalk,..Downloads show registration and Numbers for all downloads EXCEPT Vintage Keys!!
Is this the problem or must I continue to search for the majic sequence of key strokes an Mouse clics.
Advice and abuse taken equally

The original SC included sounds borrowed from Rapture and DimPro, and clearly indicated the source for each patch. Do the SC expansion packs indicate the same, or does it appear that they are new, unique samples? I ask because I already have the expansion packs for Rapture and DimPro. No need for pure redundancy.
