What OS? Be handy if you had a signature with a few system specs - hint, hint :) If it's XP, Start menu -> Run... -> type in the word msconfig, then press OK. There's a tab "Startup" - see what processes are ticked here. There are bound to be some ATI ones. You can untick and reboot. (Or if unsure, post a list and get some more advice.) See if you still get the DPI latency hiccups. Cheers, Peter.

Spikes are still there as well as clicks ;- I'm running a dual core 2.4Ghz 2GB of RAM. About 4years old, but was made custom built for music by Millennium, and until I had the graphics card replaced was working fine! And it's still working fine in Tracktion, but I take the point Sonar is going to be more demanding.

The trick is correlating those spikes revealed by the DPC Latency Checker to running driver processes. One method is to just start disabling devices in Device Manager one by one while watching the dpclat display until the spikes disappear. Once you know for sure which driver is causing the problem you can start researching your options, e.g. disabling the device while recording, changing out an adapter, or checking for driver updates. There are other methods, but this one's probably the least intimidating.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I have used the DPC latency test and tried disabling devices one at a time. Whether I disable a device or not, I either get a long period of "green" with no red spikes, or a red spike at the beginning of the test then greens for ages, or at worst, a couple of red spikes after 30 seconds or so. However, in Sonar (and still not in Tracktion), I get clicks happening every two to three seconds typically, so no correlation with the red spikes at all. So, what does anyone suggest I try now? Thanks again for your support.

NOW SOLVED! I think... ...I had assumed that the shop had installed the latest drivers for the new graphics card. Well, I have just done so, and all seems to be well. I have never had to do this for any component before, often wondering what all the noise about "ensure you have the latest drivers installed" was all about. So now I know! All I need to do now is work out this little electric mandolin riff in F# Phrygian mode and I'll be happy!

@ Marshall: I'm glad you solved your problem. But i still have to solve mine. :( I disabled Aero and latest drivers are installed. The issue subsists, only X1 gives me 'clicks' wherever the plugin i use with AAR and only if the AAR GUI is open. I ran out of ideas.
