Hi Jon,

Thanks for the memory link.  The Audio Device I am currently using is the PreSonus FireBox.  I am wanting to upgrade to the FireStudio in the near future though.

I will switch out the video for the nvidia one.  I am not worried about graphics as this build is going to be strictly for the studio.

Thanks,

Tom

Hey Jon,

Thanks for all the help.  It is really appreciated.  The old system is really not a concern, it was just a stop gap until I could afford all the parts for this system.  I am there now.

Once I have it built and running, I will send along the results and I am sure I am going to enjoy this new system.

Once again, thanks a lot for the guidance.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Jon,

No worries there.  I own several different copies of Win7 both 32 and 64 bit.

Thanks,

Tom

I received all the parts yesterday and I was up all night building it.  Unfortrunately, the supplier did not ship all the RAM so I will be receiving another 16GB next weeks but at least I received 8GB so I could begin the build.  This machine is a beast.

Everyone mentioned that I would need to make sure of drivers and some teaks, once I got the machine.  Could you all let me know what kind of things to look out for?  I have already installed Sonar and I am in the midt of moving over all my content but I would like to tighten up everything I can before starting any production work as I want toi minimize the battle later on.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Jon,

Just wanted to say thanks a ton for all your help with the machine.  I received the extra memory yesterday and installed it.  I ran everything last night and it all ran extremely smooth.  Many thanks.  I love this machine and with the VS-700, it is everything I was hoping for.

Once again, thanks for all the help with the hardware.

We have a variety of machines here at the office. Most developers have some flavor of Intel or AMD machines. My work machine is a 3.2 GHz 8 core Intel Xeon (16 with HT!) running Win 7 X64. But I don't use it as a real DAW since its primarily for development and testing. We have some pretty high end evaluation machines from Intel as well. My machine at home is a Core I7 950 with Win7 X64. Other systems in use are pretty diverse since we try and test on a variety of setups.

Hi Noel,

That Xeon machine must just fly.  :)  I have one of those for one of my development servers at work but like yourself at home I have a Core I7 950 with 24 Gigs of RAM running Win 7 x64.  Hopefully, I will be going through full integration of the V-Studio 700 this weekend.  As long as my daughter permits me time.  :)

Thanks for letting me know what is being used at the shop.

You were dead on about that.  He made figuring everything out easy and when I built the machine, I had a minimal amount of tweaking to do as well.  :)

Whoa. tthayer I just noticed you're in Hornings Mills. Despite living in Germany I know exactly where that is, one of my best and oldest friends in the world lives about 2 minutes from you just outside Shelburne - fantastic musician too (bassist/multi-instrumentalist), with a nice little studio, we grew up together in Markham. Small world!

Very Cool.  I know a few musicians up here.  I also golf with a few of them.  What is your friends name?  Your right, it is a small world.  I have run into people all over the world that know friends or people close to me.  As time goes by, it seems the world get's smaller and smaller.

Ed Roman. You'll know him if you meet him - definitely a larger than life character. Has a new double album coming out, which I played some tracks on last summer.

Nope.  I haven't met Ed before but I will have to keep an eye out for him.  Looks like he has a show coming up in Shelburne on May 5th.  I'll see if I can drop by and check it out though.

you should go! He's a crazy performer. And definitely introduce yourself - he's also a hoot  to talk to - and mention that you met his friend tobias online... anyway enjoy that cracking new machine, hope you get along with X1 too!
