Zooming in on a track in Forge until the nodes appear, you can do the most delicate audio editing possible, taking down accidental clips (which you discover with the "detect clips" tool) so they don't clip anymore, taking out the pop of old vinyl with truly surgical precision - in short, you can play with the volume of a clip in a way that is light years ahead of what you can without a pen tool.

And so forth.

Absolutely agree. I've even used the pen tool to fix a CD track that suffered from some digital clicks and pops (it was a corrupted burnt CD and the original wave file is not available to me). The pencil tool is definitely the best way to fix those kinds of things, at least with the tools available to me.

I haven't read all the posts but there is a deficiency in the installation of SONAR x64 in that it wont pick up a 32 bit Wave editor to include in the Options Menu.

Only alternative is to add it manually as per bitflipper's suggested regedit.

BTW. If you highlight a section of a track or clip in SONAR, then acces your editor via the Options Mneu, it will open the whole track or whole clip in your editor but the section highlighted in SONAR will also be highlighted in your editor ready for work.

It would be nice if Cakewak included some of these basic things like a regedit file ready to import for X1x64 users. Actually I found the easiest way to do it is to create an add_wave_editor.txt file with the correct entries as per bitflipper's instructions below (remember in a x64 OS that your wave editor will likely reside in the Program Files x86 path). Having created the add_wave_editor.txt just change the extension from .txt to .reg and double click it to add your info to the registry.

If you are using a different wave editor than Adobe Audition and or it's location is different to the info below then simply edit the red text to match your editor's name and path. Note even though SONAR X1 does not have a Tools Menu the entry for your editor will be in the Utilities Menu. The key name of Tools Menu is however still correct.

"MenuText"="&Adobe Audition"
"StatusBarText"="Audition"
"Type"="WaveEditor"

I have many DAWS and Wave Editors, among them being Audio Audition 3 and Sound Forge 10c.

Honestly folks if you can do with SONAR what i can do with either AA or Sf then you must have quite a lot of specially written code in a version of SONAR I've never seen.

Just one Example. In SF I can take 1 audio file whlch could be individual, consecutive songs , define each by markers, process them with various fx (or other types of audio manipulation) select a type of output file, bit, depth, sample rate, etc and with the click of one buitton SF will process all my commands, creating new files with a naming convention of my choosing while I go off and have a sleep, lunch. or keep working on something else.

that's just one of the many and varied functions that wave editors have available for work that involves more than just creating content.

Imagine having to process a few hundred samples. SONAR would not be my tool of choice

Why all the fuss?

I just bought Sound Forge Audio Studio for  £22 on Amazon it does everything I need and appears in Sonar X1 as soon as I installed it.
