Freddie H wormser Zo had the 1616M ...good convertors , drivers way not optimized for me , had a better latency in firewire with fireface than in pci !! That's what I have heard. The MOTU 828MK3 Hybrid looks sweet for the money, but again what kind of latency are we talking about? I can't seem to locate any information that I trust. ...and MOTU drivers are terrible unstable... talk about crash all day long in the studio.. think again... I have never had a crash with my MOTU Ultralite MK3 Hybrid drivers.

Freddie, I love ya man... but my MOTU units have been used successfully for many hours over several years (under WinXP and Win7x64). (Note that I don't try to run multiple MOTU Firewire units) But I do agree that RME is the "Neuman" of audio interfaces...

@Beagle and @Jim Rosenberry: What kind of round trip latency are you guys getting with the MK3 Hybrid? Are you using USB or Firewire? For VSTi work, can you run 64 samples? TIA! P.S. With RME and the PCIe card I might be wrong but after you spend the $800.00 or so you still have to purchase the D-shell breakout cable? Also why does it say 24 bit 96khz but then in the description says 192khz? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HDSPe9632/

I've been researching the MOTU ultralite MKIII and the Octa-Capture for the last few days. I think the OC is the better interface. I am going to pick up a new one soon. So far, the OC is the one. I've read Anderton's review and others. It really looks like a great bit of kit for the money.

wormser - I cannot run 64 samples with heavy real time softsynths on my system without pops. The best I can get without popping is 128 and sometimes even 256. I can run 64 samples on my system if I'm only using low CPU usage softsynths (i.e. TTS-1). I am using firewire - USB is even worse on my system, I cannot run less than 256 or 512 on USB even just running audio only without getting pops (but I DO have a LOT of USB devices on my system). I used to have my system in my signature, but for some reason the stupid forum software thinks I was over the 550 character limit with this added to it! Q6600, 2.4GHz Quad core, 8G RAM Win7x64, 512M dedicated video card, TI Chipset Firewire/PCI card. I don't know about the description descrepancies re: 96k vs 192k. I am pretty certain I cannot record at 192k, but I'm not at home to verify that.

I have heard many have trouble especially running multiple MOTU Firewire units too.... Perhaps drivers are better now... I don't know?.. I don't use MOTU myself...

The Motu Ultralite has only 2 micpres. The OC gives you eight. So I guess the OC is the better choice. I don't think I'd make much use of the EFX built into the MOTU as I always record flat and dry and only use effects during mixdown. As to the CueMix app, I would prefer to do all my routings within Sonar.

I didn't read through everything so forgive. @motu: They are not immune from problems so though you'll hear a few say "rock solid" there are some in the background saying (not totally rock solid ;) ) FWIW my profire 610 has been flawless on the new system.....who knew? @rme: I don't know how many ins/outs you need but if you don't need a plethora you could consider the babyface.....it's higher than your budget but I'm guessing it's just about as stable as you can get. Did anyone talk about the focusrite stuff? there are some new USB 2.0 models coming but I've heard plenty of people praise the FW models. They are right in your range. btw, did presonus just stop making good units? I thought they used to be in the convo for this price range.

It looks like the OC performs better than the Ultralite. The effects are not the important. Both offer reverb for monitoring but the OC can use phantom power for all the tracks individually. No grouping or all or nothing. Each track has it's own selectable phantom power. The other thing I noticed is that inputs 1 and 2 have selectable hi-z setting if you want to plug in your guitar/bass. It seems the frequency response is really good as well. Over on another forum, Craig Anderton posted some results that showed the curve slowly curving down after 20hz. Check out his review. http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?2746804-Roland-Octa-Capture-Interface-Now-with-Conclusions

I reported back on the first page that I bought one of these units. So far so good...the mixer is a bit confusing though. Mark
