I know this is totally unrelated, but that never stopped me before.
I was doing a competitive analysis/industry study on the airline industry when i was getting my MBA. I was perusing through some airline's financial statements when I noticed this line in their income statement
Involuntary conversion gain $xxxx
I thought I knew a lot about finance and accounting, but I had never ever seen an involuntary conversion gain. This was before the internet (I am not sure Al Gore had even been borne yet).
I had to dig through things manually, and being obsessive compulsive, dig I did.
I finally found out that the aforementioned Involuntary Conversion Gain involved involuntarily converting an aircraft into insurance proceeds! Along with the passengers I might add.
