Twigman subtlearts Odd. Never seen it. This is it in action: http://img546.imageshack.us/f/x1b.jpg/ It's not just the Control Bar - look at the Sends Lev and Pan knobs in the Inspector. They are not rendered properly. I don't think this is just a X1/Control bar issue. I remember reading that X1 changed the way it renders graphics from previous versions. Cheers, Peter.

I still have the disappearing control bar issue also with x1b. It doesn't disappear unless I minimize Sonar to do something else, like check email. When I come back to Sonar, it's usually gone. It doesn't disappear instantly. It takes a few mins.

Maybe im confused, I thought people were thinking through things a bit in this thread...Seems to me that the control bar issue is well documented in the x1 forum. If I recall, Cakewalk says they fixed it in the long awaited X1B patch. Then, people took the time to contribute to the thread, ruled out the possibilities that it was just nvida.. I'm sorry, how does your post help this cause?

I've lost the control bar twice in the last few days, and I'm on X1b - so I don't think it's *all the way* fixed Also, I had X1 just freak out - where I couldn't click on an area of the project to "go to" that measure, and horisontal zoom was either all the way in or all the way out. I just sighed, closed X1 and went back in - and all was fine...

There must be something in common with the people who have this issue and there are not millions and billions of possible permutations. I'm guessing it has something to do with what spec peoples GPU's can do (Eg full DX11 spec? DX10? DX9? etc) or it has something to do with "quality" settings within the GPU (typically AA and/or AF settings etc). There have been threads in the past asking Cake as to the exact GPU specs needed/required etc but none have been answered in any detail.

The thing is - it only happens once in a while. And it's easy to fix (twigmans suggestion of RH click and "enable floating" works great)

Edit: actually not always - it depends which track is in the inspector So if this is a graphics rendering issue (rather than a specific X1/Control Bar issue), what could be the problem? I'm assuming that because X1 has changed the way it renders, this is exposing some sensitivity in the way it interacts with the OS. Things I can think of: 1. Graphics drivers up-to-date? I have the same video card as you - my drivers are at 266.58. Note I'm on WinXP. 2. DirectX up-to-date - will be different for Win7 I presume. 3. Win7 up-to-date. Maybe some bugs got fixed in graphics-related libraries. 4. .NET - is this relevant? If so, up-to-date? 5. What else? - I don't know enough about which system libraries/dlls are available for programs to use to render graphics. Cheers, Peter.

Are you saying when you press C on keyboard (control bar go away) and then press C again (control bar come back) that it doesn't reset? I have had what you are seeing happen, but hitting C twice makes it go away.

I have just purchased X1. I have used Cakewalk since the early 90's, so I'm no beginner. I have the disappearing control bar issue and I finally tracked down the source of the issue, but I'm waiting for tech support to provide the solution. The disapperaing control bar manifests whenever I have minimized the Sonar screen and the time-sensitive "auto-save" engages. If I minimize a saved file for any length of time, the control bar remains. If I minimize a modified file, but the auto-save function does not engage, then the control bar is fine. Only when the auto-save engages while a modified file is minimized do I get the lost control bar. If you do a fresh install of all your Cakewalk programs, as they recommend from tech support, then your auto-save will, by default, be set to 0 and 0. This will give the illusion that the problem is fixed, but the reality is that it has just been avoided. If anyone has any ideas, I'm happy to listen... Thanks, Robert...

Ok, I'm back. Hmmm ... this is interesting. I've been listening to a project for 2 hours in the background with it minimized while reading the forums. I check it at certain points and the tool bar would be gray. I've been doing this to try and make it do it on command so I could get video and send to tech support but every time I would load the screen capture software, the tool bar would not turn gray. I just tried what you suggested: I maximized X1 and the tool bar was gray. I undocked the toolbar so everything would reappear. Then I turned off Auto-save (I had it set for 1 minute) and played my project and the Tool Bar did not go gray. I turned Auto-save back on ... and the Tool Bar still did not turn gray. So ... I think you are on to something here. I always use Auto-save because my system seems to be more stable when I do. I'll test this out some more and try to get video of it. Thanks, Bub UPDATE: After sending this post I maximized X1 and the tool bar was gray again with Auto save on. I'm going to turn it off now and see what happens.

I'm sure it's connected to auto-save, at least on my computer, but the question is why. I had already planned to update my video before I noticed this problem, so I installed a Radeon card to replace an nVidia card. The problem did not change. Let me know how the testing goes. Robert...

After reading this thread I decided to test out the instructions to reproduce the issue so I created a new project, set auto-save to 1 minute, minimized Sonar, and then maximized it about 10 minutes later.. Voila! The control bar is all grey now.. The only thing I see on it is the now time and a single black dot near the right edge.. So yeah.. I agree. Auto-save seems to be the culprit here. Edit: After further testing my results are exactly the same as Bub's. To sum it up: Control bar docked with auto-save off = No issue Control bar docked with auto-save on = issue Control bar undocked with auto-save on or off = No issue

In April (earlier in this thread) I reported that the Control Bar no longer disapeared. That was short lived unfortunately. (I've reported it) I'm just updatiung this thread because it's been reactivated after 4 months of inactivity. I haven't used auto Save in X1 because of it's general instability (I figure that automated processes could lead to intermittent unexplained glitches weirdness which my system suffers from) and I still have the Control Bar go to Black when SONAR is not in focus for a few minutes. I've always been able to bring it back by quite a number of different operations one such being the enabling of all CB modules from the menu but if SONAR loses focus again it will disappear again. It just works like a screen refresh. If SONAR is engaed in a long operation eg bounce to wav etc then CB also can on occassion go to Black

I did some further testing and I have to agree with Bub and Audiyo. Since I always operate with the control bar docked, my issue was consistent. When I un-docked the control bar and performed the same tests, the control did not disappear. When docked (top or bottom) the issue returned whenever auto-save engaged on a minimized window. I'm slightly confused by Mudgel's post. When you say, "I still have the Control Bar go to Black when SONAR is not in focus for a few minutes," do you mean when it is minimized, or when it is maximized, but it is not the window that is currently selected? What process(es) are you running when the window is out of focus, if any? Are you using the control bar docked or un-docked? Give us some specifics so we can track this down and push Cakewalk for a repair. I have sent them several emails regarding this issue. After I performed all their tests and reinstallations (standard cut and paste problem resolutions) I sent a response detailing all my efforts and how I had narrowed things to the auto-save function. At that point, they stopped communicating with me. I have waited all week for some acknowledgement of my findings... Still waiting...

For me the control bar goes gray if I minimize the project and reappears only if I undock, then redock the control bar.

My thanks to twoifbysea. I have been having fits trying to restore the control bar. I resorted to closing and reopening Sonar; however, while the hidden modules stayed hidden, the arrangement of the visible modules would return to their default locations. By floating and then docking my control bar my modules return to their custom locations and statuses without closing the program. Sonar tech support just responded to my most recent email and they assure me (us) that this issue will be addressed in revision X1c. Let's hope... Thanks for all the quick responses.....

I tested out X1 again last night and this morning without the Auto-Save feature turned on and the Tool Bar did not disappear once. The only thing that concerns me now is the fact that a fix won't make it in to X1C. If not, it looks like I'm stuck with this bug as I do not plan to upgrade again for quite some time ... unless X2 has something to offer that knocks my socks off. It looks like you nailed the problem ThePose. Excellent find! Hard to believe nobody came across this when they were beta testing it, isn't it?
