deanx Hi Benstat Not sure if you are aware of this or if you've been approached by Cakewalk but have you seen this http://www.cakewalk.com/About/careers.aspx I know you're UK based (like me) so not sure if its possible but when the companies user base is praising not only your programming, but commitement and delivery I would have thought you be an ideal candidate. Panu to I guess. Thanks Dean Thanks for pointing that out Dean. I was already aware of the CW vacancies. Let's just say I'm looking into it. Ben

Ben, I tried installing Sonar Plus last night but it came up with an error and wanted to download some sort of utility from the 'net. Any idea what could be causing this? I'm running XP32 SP3 if that's any help to you.

Any chance you could rename Sonar Plus. I went to uninstall it before installing the latest version and somehow clicked on the next item in the list. I was half way through uninstalling Sonar X1 Producer before I realised what I had done.

I already had to change it once and was a real PITA (far more than you'd think). It used to be called SONAR X1 Helper, but I had to change it because Win7 won't allow apps with the word 'help' in the title to be pinned to the taskbar! That was a very time consuming task. I already had to change my website domain once at some expense too. But, I'm willing to bet you won't be making that mistake twice! I hope you're back up and running soon, and thanks for using SONAR Plus. Ben

Bristol_Jonesey Ben, I tried installing Sonar Plus last night but it came up with an error and wanted to download some sort of utility from the 'net. Any idea what could be causing this? I'm running XP32 SP3 if that's any help to you. SONAR Plus makes use of a Microsoft programming library called the .NET Framework. If you don't already have it installed, the Plus setup program will download and install it for you. It's quite normal and nothing to worry about. It's a bit like the Microsoft Visual C++ library that SONAR itself uses. In fact, a version of it is actually built-in to Windows Vista and Windows 7. It's not very big either (about 35Mb). The good news is you only need to install it once. Whenever I release new versions of Plus, you won't need to install it again because it will already be on your PC. So, if you're OK with that, go ahead and let the Plus setup program download and install it for you. If you're not connected to the internet, let me know and I can send you a link to download it directly from Microsoft. Thanks, Ben

@benstat - Cakewalk has put out a new quickfix which apparently resolves the note duration problem in the tool HUD, which had been affecting the staff view. Seeing your note symbol icons in the staff view would bring a tear to my eye...

The good news: The QuickFix has worked exactly as advertised. Changing the note length duration in the Staff View via the Tools HUD now seems to work perfectly. The bad news: Unfortunately, note length keybindings still don't work in the Staff View, and it's the keybindings that SONAR Plus uses. I've already reported it. All is not lost! I may now be able to leverage a temporary workaround using the Tools HUD. I'll look into it over the weekend. At this point I must register my appreciation for the new QuickFix program. I think it's a huge step forward. At least the Staff View note length can now be changed via a quick middle mouse button click (or the 'T' key if you've only got two buttons!).

there's no way that this program can mess up sonar - it's a separate program which only uses calls to sonar. it doesn't modify sonar at all. it's a great program and I applaud ben for his work!

gtgarner I'm scared that this will mess up my sonar program. Has this worked for everyone? There have been up to 700 downloads of each Plus update so far. Out of all those, I've only had about 3 minor bug reports which I haven't been able to duplicate or fix (that's to say they don't seem to be happening for anyone else). Also, SONAR Plus doesn't make any permanent changes to SONAR whatsoever, which the single exception of adding a link to itself to the Utilities menu. You can try it out safe in the knowledge that if you don't like it, you can simply uninstall it with no harm done. Also, you don't have to run it all the time. It's up to you when you run Plus, so if you want a SONAR session without it, just don't run it. I guess I'm saying it's pretty safe! Try it. If you like it, great. If you don't, uninstall it and you're back to square one.

It's working great for me! I really appreciate the work on this benstat The only quirk I've run into so far is trying to close Sonar. If I hit the X at top right, it leaves a blank screen behind that I can't get rid of without going to task manager and ending task. If I close from File->Exit, it works fine. Not a big deal, but thought I would mention it.

I do this all the time, I never close sonar from the menu options - only from the X at the top right hand of the window and I've never seen this problem. I use win7x64 and 64bit X1 but I also just tried it using 32bit X1 and no problems there either.

I suppose the thing to do would be to try running SONAR without Plus and seeing if it still happens. Let me know what happens if you do please.

benstat I suppose the thing to do would be to try running SONAR without Plus and seeing if it still happens. Let me know what happens if you do please. I put my system specs in my sig now. Running without Plus, it closes normally with the X in top right. I've discovered a couple things here, but it doesn't always repeat itself. With Plus in full screen mode, the RED X is not available which is probably why it doesn't completely close Sonar. I'm not sure though, why the blank screen it leaves behind is frozen and I have to use task manager to get out of it. Also, sometimes just clicking the Plus full screen toggle freezes the entire program and I have to use task manager to get out of it. That happened twice so I thought it was repeatable, but then I tried it a third time and it worked fine. It's probably something going on in my system, because it's a well known fact that my computer hates me.

Very difficult to reproduce unfortunately. I made some changes to version 1.0.0.9 to hopefully stop it from happening, but it looks like it hasn't worked. I'll revisit this sometime soon and see if I can sort it out.

Full-screen mode causes major flakiness with the Control Bar here as well, I pretty much had to stop using it. But I like the idea...

OK! I can confirm that DOES happen to me as well using full screen mode! If I try to close Sonar after putting it into full screen mode, then it closes the project, but leaves the sonar window in full screen mode without the X or "-" or boxes in the upper right hand corner. If I THEN close Sonar Plus then sonar reverts back to regular screen mode and the "X" and other options appear and I can then close sonar.
