I'm not familiar with the original ... so my ponderings may be off.

I felt a lot of enthusiasm ... heart, emulation, etc. ... choruses are exceptionally strong.  And I felt more of the excellent YoyoFactory vibe.

Like many of my emulations of others, this song feels 'inside-the-box' a bit ... at this stage.  The choruses 'feel' wonderful AS IS.

Personally I'd tweek more:

-- Lengthen Vox delays/doubles (delay time) to decrease comb-filtering in the 'naked' sections.

-- Single vox some of the 'naked' portions with intimate retakes (closer-mic-whispering, or poetics, non-melodics, or pitch correction (if you feel like it).

-- Otherwise, I'd creatively experiment with pad elements in the naked sections:  White noise or grey percussives, ambient but humanized tambs, shakers, etc ... that you like with your vox.

Great ideas, Mister P.

amazing James, it takes a lot of courage to leave your voice so naked as in this one, but you have certainly made the right call! a great change of pace, congrats sir! mix is of course spot on.
Alas,if only I had a decent voice...

vechung

It gives the original a different feel.  A more mellow and instrospective mood which I think makes it more intimate and perhaps a more appropriate arrangement.  Great job!

I always thought the original recording was so out of sync with the thrust of the lyrics. They should have done it like this other similar song of theirs You Got A Hold Of Me

Love this.  I'm sitting here at my computer listening to songs on the forum while my wife takes a shower.  When this finished, she yelled from the bathroom, "Who was that? That's great!"  So that's two thumbs up from this household.  I too remember the original version.  This is a great rendition.  Thought the vocals were excellent.

very nice James, the song has a lot going for it
the songs message has a universal type vibe on the remembrance of an ever present heart felt lingering lost love
your voice sounded good on this
it had just the right amount of angst mixed w the inevitable acceptance of having to surrender the loss & move on
I enjoyed the sparsity of the arrangement  ,the performance and your mix

I'm sure you don't hear yourself as we do, because you sure had me convinced. The vocal performance is heartfelt. Better still, is how everything just flows. There's some magic at work here. Very engaging. Bravo!

Never heard this before.  I listened to a bit of the original.  I do like what you did.  I can imagining seeing this done at a show.  It'd would be great to watch.  I really liked it, James!

I genuinely laughed out loud at this

Hi James,

I've never heard of Enuf Znuff let alone this tune but I like your version a lot.

Love the vocal and the bare bones approach.  Excellent!

Reminds me of something Dick Wagner would do.

Very well done for sure.  Piano sounds real good.

I liked the guitar licks but they sounded "processed".  I'm assuming you DI on the guitar?

Very nice job.  I confess I like your version a bit better than the orginal as well.  Though that could be just because of your slick production.

Really cool James. I listened briefly to the original which just sounded like "another tune". Your's had panache and really brought the song to the heart... Well done.
