Here's an audio snippit that demonstrates Redopter and Toraverb on the lead guitar (Orange Tree Samples' Evolution Electric Guitar) and Fazortan on the rhythm guitar (from SampleTank). Redopter has turned out to be a needed solution for light distortion, where the amp sims I have are all too heavy-handed. (This project was kind of a testbed for a number of new plugin acquisitions. The piano is the recently-acquired Old Lady from SampleTekk.)

Hmm, playing with Syntorus presets over lead lines I've had Sonar (X1) go off into the weeds - locked up and hourglassed, meters stuck and no more sound. If I close the plugin window I get the "Sonar is not responding" windows message and I can close Sonar down that way. Anybody else having weird stuff happen?

Ok, I think it's related to whether or not there is a stereo feed into the plug. Mono in seems to be flakey, not sure if its the plug or sonar, but seems avoidable if always used in stereo. And woot for me and my Bronze-nessity :)

No problems here with either mono or stereo tracks. My only complaints so far are mostly minor and mostly cosmetic. No hangs or crashes.

No hangs or crashes here yet either. BTW...I've got a song from my current album project that (I thought) was finished and mixed. But I thought it might be good due to it's intstrumentation and sound to try Toraverb on as I was learning it. I loaded the project, installed Toraverb on the moody, dark upright piano track with the default setting "crystal cave" and...whoa....me likey....this is the perfect sound for this mix. I love serendipity. And Toraverb.

I'm getting lots of mileage out of them already. Obtaining them one at a time as the group buy count went up meant that I could devote attention to each one individually. As each plugin came available I'd add it to my current project and experiment. I used Redoptor and Toraverb on snare and toms to good effect. I ran a send to a bus so I could mix the effect in under the dry sound and automate it so it only came in on the verse. The distortion gave them a sound reminiscent of those bamboo sticks they use in the traditional Filipino dance called Tinikling (you know, the one that looks like a particularly hazardous form of hopscotch). A Toraverb patch tweaked from the Crystal Cave preset gave a delayed reverb burst like an echo in a concrete alleyway. The result is an effect that sounds as if an entirely different set of percussion samples had been crossfaded in, but still very organic-sounding. I am a fan of parallel distortion on vocals, so I went back to an old project where I'd used Guitar Rig for that purpose and replaced it with Redoptor. I was able to get a smoother, less crunchy effect that blended better with the dry vocal, and with the added benefit of lower CPU usage. I just wish they'd re-skin those plugins with a larger UI! And give us direct data entry while they're at it. It's nearly impossible to give the output a 1db nudge.

Thanks for the input guys. I think the problem i have (occasionally) lies with the interaction with another plugin (Recabinet3) I have in the same bin. I get some crazy sounds (not the good kind of crazy) when I change the track from mono to stereo, and it seems to be related to that plug, not the d16 ones. Speaking of which, these d16 ones are really fun, a bit off the beaten path yet able to do straightforward, beautiful stuff as well as wtf sounds...

It's nearly impossible to give the output a 1db nudge. +1 I was also expecting the presets to be in a drop down list rather than having to push a button to get to the next preset.....but, these are just small inconveniences to deal with when considering the overall quality of these plugs.

I get some crazy sounds (not the good kind of crazy) when I change the track from mono to stereo, and it seems to be related to that plug, not the d16 ones. Many (most?) amp and cab sims are mono effects, so when you run a stereo signal to them they sum to mono at the input. That in turn raises the level of the signal, which affects the distortion processor and changes the timbre of the track. Just summing any stereo track to mono can alter the tone if it's a true stereo track, e.g. if there are significant frequency and phase differences between left and right. For guitars, I find that mono tracks work better 99% of the time anyway. BTW, the D16 plugins do seem to be stereo-friendly, meaning that they preserve the stereo image. Another reason to like Redoptor, since many other distortion effects do not behave this way.

Hey Mesh...if you'll click the Browse button you'll see a drop down with all the different presets to choose from.
