There are times when you hear of a loss and, with out much feeling, you say the compassionate thing. Then there are times you hear about a loss and it touched you deeply, and you find that any words you have seem inadequate. Damn it Jimmy.. its not fair. I will miss you man. Shad

Beautiful words, Janet. I didn't know Jimmy, but feel I kinda do from all the posts you guys have made past and present. I'm sorry for your loss, everyone. My heart and prayers go out to Jimmy's family as well as all of you. This is definitely sad, but those of you that have witnessed this horrible illness first hand know how horrible it can be to watch when a loved one has to endure this, only to lose the battle. :( He's in such a better place now, we have to keep telling ourselves that. No more pain, suffering, meds, doctors, good news, bad news...that hurts my heart to even think of a human being going through that. It's all hard for us to accept because we feel the loss and at times, we tend to be selfish in a loving way and just wish our friends/family never had to be faced with this. May God bless you Jimmy and keep your family healthy, safe, out of harms way and strong through this time. Look out for your brothers and sisters in this world that love you and miss you as we all need all the help we can get. :) It's obvious you have touched quite a few lives during your time here and I salute you for that, brother. Rest in peace.

I've had my fingers on this keyboard a couple of times this morning since I saw the news. Words escaped me each time. Still not sure what can be said to really make myself feel better. As some of you know, with Janet's help I tried to help Jimmy by making some arrangements and offering to help financially in addition to the donations some of us made through Reece's kind efforts in setting up a way to get him some money to help him. The communications I had with Janet about what she was hearing from Jimmy didn't give me the feeling that things were going to turn out good for him, but he seemed to have a hopeful attitude. He spoke of getting back home, and playing in a band. He said he wanted to take me up on my offer after his treatments if I was willing. I always was. My feelings about Jimmy are that he was a gentle, simple Southern soul. A very talented musician and songwriter. And a much better recordist and mixer than he gave himself credit for. Especially considering his modest gear. His songs had a soulful honesty that never failed to reach me, with heartfelt lyrics and just the right notes played beautifully on guitar. His generous comments on others music was always honest and, while not always easy to read, helpful. I've missed reading his posts for the last 6 months or so, and always will now. Thanks to Janet for her help in trying to help Jimmy, and to Reece for facilitating the funds we raised for him. You guys are 2 of the good ones. After writing this, I still feel a sadness that Jimmy didn't get the help he needed, and that he kind of fell through the cracks because of his lot it life. It shouldn't have happened, but it does. Damn shame that. Randy

He was always very supportive of our efforts, and I know I speak for Larry too in saying that we'll miss him.

Thank you Randy, Reece, Janet and countless other caring forum members (too numerous to mention I'm sure) for all that you each did for our brother Jimmy. I know if there was more that we as a forum could have done for Jimmy, I believe we would have. I also think things turned out the way they did because it was meant to be this way, otherwise, I'm sure things would have been different. Randy, I also had that same feeling about things appearing to have fallen into the cracks and that there could have been more we all could have done, but I also have a feeling that things were actually worse than we thought and perhaps things actually worked out for the best. I certainly hope this was the case.

I certainly hope this was the case. Jim, I just want to clarify as much as I can without getting to deep what I meant by "falling through the cracks". I sincerely feel we all did the best we could with what we knew when we knew it. Unfortunately for Jimmy, he had fallen through the cracks before he knew he was seriously ill. His symptoms and discomfort were misdiagnosed for quite awhile before the truth was known to him and his Dr. It may have already been too late by that point, but we'll never know. He delayed getting treatment due to lack of money and insurance. Tragic in my mind. I don't want this thread derailed about this stuff, but also don't want anyone thinking we as a community could have done more than we did. It's an incredible thing to me that we were able to make things a little easier for him, and more importantly to make him aware that people he would never likely meet in person, cared about him and would make the kind of effort we did for someone who was essentially a stranger. That's what I'm going to try and keep in my heart Randy

Yes, Jimmy was just blown away by our help and said a few times what a huge help it was to him, as he was able to get some pain meds he couldn't afford otherwise. I'm sure the rest of it was a big help to him too. He was also sincerely touched to hear how much we cared about him and really missed being on the forum the last few months.

Right on, Randy. I was sitting in the living room, with my husband working on his laptop, when I first read the news... And at first, I simply said something like, "oh! OH! Jimmy's gone..." and my husband wondered who Jimmy was, and I said "one of my cakewalk forum friends...". And I sat there for a minute, sorta numb... And then, I realized that I needed to leave the room immediately as I was about to burst into tears and my children were in the next room... So I went upstairs and laid on my bed, listening to his sound click page and crying for an hour... Just me and my headphones, pouring tears. And All I could think was... This is a man on a forum! I don't know this man! How could I be so emotional over someone I've never met? And that's the beauty of this place. From all walks of life, from all genres, from all economic cicrumstances, from all angles... We've somehow become a family. I can explain it, it makes no sense...but it IS. And it hurts deeply to loose one of our own. And so my friends, I thank you all. For helping where you could, for doing as you do and for somehow lifting the others up. I don't think that this happens everywhere.

So well said, Julianna, and what a cool way to deal with our loss. I heard right before my whole family (15 of us) was getting together for supper, so I had to 'stuff it.' I imagine it will hit me when I finally get some down time and take time to listen to his music again. But it IS weird about forum friends, isn't it? Weird and really great. Sorta hard to explain to the family, like you said though. lol I keep wishing that we could all go the funeral...or somewhere...and collectively help each other through this. But we're still a formidable group when needed and a cool family. :)

Lovely sentiments on the forum for Jimmy. Like others I got upset when I heard the news after logging into the forum earlier and I spent some time listening to his music on his Soundclick pages. His music and the collective forum memories will ensure that the spirit of Jimmy Gentry lives on. RIP Jimmy Garry

@ Randy, totally agree with you, thanks for the clarification, and an extra thanks for all the extra effort you put forth in trying to pick up some of the pieces when you did. You'll always have my deepest respect. @ Juliana - well put. I did the same thing, went back to listen to his music and re-read some of our correspondences. @ Reece - Very well put!

So many people have gone back to his Soundclick page - maybe that's one of the unexpected benefits of the internet? When someone leaves, their legacy is still accessible... (i'm basing this on my own experience - 2 friends dead in a couple of years, Facebook still reminds me of their birthdays. It's hard, but it's good to be able to see their photos and read their thoughts.)

I didn't really know Jimmy, other than through a couple of his songs that I listened to. He was obviously very kmowledegable and talented in what he was doing with his music, and he also seemed to be able and willing to really help others achieve their goals and improve their musical projects. He is clearly well liked, he no doubt has many friends who will miss him, both on this forum and in his real life. I wish I had met him, he sounds like a great guy all around. R.I.P. Jimmyman.
