I know you guys are all talking about formatting in posts, but most of the time I can't even load the forum at all, using FF 6.01. (or any other browser) Is anyone else experiencing sporadic failures of the forum to load? I know I am in a 3rd world country, but I can surf any website on the planet - except the Cakewalk form - which only happens to be everyone's primary source of news about Sonar. When I asked CW support about this, they suggested I upgrade my Java, which after reading earlier posts here about how out of date CW's forum software is, was pretty funny. Surely someone at CW must appreciate that roughly one quarter of all forum users do so with Firefox?? Or is the problem not with Cakewalk, but rather the people who host this forum? CAKEWALK - PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE!

Hi Plazma ... after reading your thread I suddenly remembered Java. I completely forgot it even existed. I went and updated it and the forums have almost zero delay now. My ISP is very mercurial so I do know if it's coincidence or what ... but I've been surfing the forums off and on for a couple of hours now and not one slow down. Can't hurt to try and upgrade it.

I've also heard (from Brandon, I think) that Cake's trying to address the forum software problems. Here at my project studio I recently upgraded to IE9. It no likee the forum either...at least for me. Posting is a toss-up as to whether it actually gets posted...lots of times I can't even load the forum...etc......

I've said it many times ... but one more won't hurt LOL: FF 5.0 works really well with this forum. So I just recommend those using/liking FF go with 5 and wait until CW decide to come into the modern FORUM 2.0 world ;)

the problem with using older browsers (eg, ff5) is that you miss the later security updates

yorolpal I've also heard (from Brandon, I think) that Cake's trying to address the forum software problems... According to ASPPlayground, there's no need for "trying to address" the problems - Cakewalk simply needs to install (for free) the current version of the ASP software. They're something like 4 versions behind. The current ASP software is working with all browsers. As per my report in post #17. Not wanting to roll back Firefox to a previous, less secure version, I now have Chrome open at the same so I can easily jump on the Forum to respond, since the Forum works fine in Chrome. RB

pwal the problem with using older browsers (eg, ff5) is that you miss the later security updates Sure, but some of those security updates are minor - or don't apply on this forum (or may apply seriously). But regardless, if something isn't working right (here), what's a forumite to do But, if anyone thinks that hackers aren't far above the security updates to FF or any other software, just keep in mind how easy it was/is for hackers to get confidential government data; credit card data, etc. And keep in mind that Google, MS and a myriad of other companies regularly collect our data with or without our knowing or agreeing. So if anyone is *REALLY* worried about security, I would suggest staying off the internet and not using your smartphone

I'm just curious ... what kind of web sites are you guys visiting that makes you worry about security so much? I've been to the depths of the internet and back and I've never had a virus I got off the net, never had my PC hijacked, and I never used any security until recently with what comes with Windows. I've had 1 virus since I bought my first PC back in 1993ish ... and it came on a floppy that contained a mouse driver with that brand new PC. BTW ... still running great after that Java update ... it seems to be doing something with the forum speed.

I suppose I might be overly cautious, but I still do everything I can to be safe with the investment in my computer. I'd rather take the time to be cautious than end up sorry that I didn't. When we say "never had a problem!"-- we need to be sure and knock on wood! Randy B.

Remember that V5 is just as safe as before V6 came out, it's just there won't be anymore security updates for it. V3.6 is still supported so will be as "safe" as V6.

pwal the problem with using older browsers (eg, ff5) is that you miss the later security updates Why do they update major version just for security updates - it really has gone inflation in major versions on ff. I ran on 3.6 this spring, then came 4.0, then came 5.0, then came 6.0 in the matter of two/three month. Are they envious of MSIE which is v9?

Every place else I've visited with Firefox 6.1 works perfectly. I'm sticking with my dual browser routine for now, Chrome for this Forum, Firefox for everything else. Hopefully Cakewalk will simply catch up on their ASPPlayground updates so their forums can work correctly for all users. RB

I always had the feeling the editor is pure javascript all the way. Maybe it's written in a syntax that differ a little bit from the engine used in ff6. I had strange problems during the years working with different compilers on the same code. Even though javascript is interpreted it's still parsed.
