For some reason, I just NOW saw your post, Reece. Hmm....OK, I'll try that. Also, for this particular song, I'm beginning to think they must have recorded it when it was in its funky mode, (48000, perhaps?). Because when it's all set correctly, it's too slow. If that's the case, is there any way I can speed it up just for export? Also, unchecking exclusive mode hasn't made any difference.

And aren't those two top shots the sound card?

Ah ha...there it is....the Mia Midi Console. Is that what you mean? There, the Core Audio sample rate is set to 48 kHz. I changed that, rebooted and it seems to be changed. OK, now when I play something in WMP, then try Sonar, I have to close WMP first before Sonar will even play. But now it doesn't change the speed in Sonar at least, so maybe we're getting somewhere.

I just tried something with that song...(just trying to get my post count up here, too, btw)... I imported it into Audacity, and sure enough, there's a 'change speed' effect. Voila...that did it! :) And yes, Reece, I know you're even more surprised than I am that I thought of that! And the cool thing is that the first setting I tried (total guessing), was right on. Yeah! Now on to bigger and better things...and see what else I messed up in the meantime. :)

So, is there a way to get it so I don't have to close WMP before playing something in Sonar?

do you have "share drivers with other programs" checked in the OPTIONS>AUDIO options?

and now did you go back to verify that your windows settings are set to 44100Hz, 16bit?

Janet, in my experience of working with the Echo cards for many years, I've not been able to run Sonar and an Echo card at once...but you *sort of* can. Here's what I do. Make sure Sonar is open first...once it is, if you want to listen to something through WMP, stop Sonar's audio engine, then open up WMP. Actually, any media player will work this way. Once you're done with WMP though, you have to close it or Sonar will not work once you press play or re-enable the Sonar sudio engine. Always stop the Sonar audio engine before you even open an instance of WMP and you'll be fine. Now, if you need to play 2 things at the same time, just use your onboard sound card which won't be connected to Sonar. I have all my stuff set up like this... All wave files play through Winamp. I do this because of 2 reasons. 1. Winamp allows me to use ARC room correction as a VST plugin so I don't have to bring a wave file into an audio editor to listen to it with correction. 2. Winamp is configured to send to my Echo cards (2 Layla cards) on 2 of my boxes...and I have one box sending out to a RME Fireface 800 which are connected to several sets of pro monitors. Next, all mp3's are configured through WMP using my Realtek onboard sound to run them going into Altec Lansing 5.1 pc speakers with a sub and surround disabled. The cool thing about this is, it gives me a consumer listening experience as well as the pro experience using my good cards and real monitors and I can listen to stuff on Sonar and through WMP at the same time. I can also still right click on any file and choose "open with" to have a specific player/set of monitors receive the sound. If I want an mp3 to play through the Winamp/Layla/RME + pro monitors, right click, open with Winamp. If I want a wave file to play through WMP through the Realtek/Altec Lansing...right click, open with WMP. This also allows me to tell between a wave and an mp3 by just looking at it. Most times WMP makes all the icons of the files look the same. The way I have mine set, the mp3's are associated with WMP with standard Windows Media icons. My wave files have that lightning type icon for Winamp. It's nice to always know what I'm looking at. So if you do have onboard sound capabilities, it may not be a bad idea to buy some really decent (the best you can afford) pc speakers just so you can... a. run in a consumer environment b. run things simultanteously with Sonar because the onboard sound driver will not be enabled or cofigured to run with Sonar. I know of no other way to make the Echo cards run with Sonar at the exact same time unless you have 2 of them and one is not connected to Sonar. But for the way that sort of works for me, you must always have Sonar open first, and then stop the audio engine and THEN open up WMP or Winamp for it to play while Sonar is open. Hope this helps. :) -Danny

Well, thanks, Danny! :) OK, my next question (Reece knows this is coming)...how do I set WMP to use my onboard sound card? Funny thing is...I used to be able to play them both using the one sound card...I just had to reset Sonar before it would play at the right speed. Now it says it won't play at all (can't remember the warning message, but it's dire.)

but that was also at 48k which you're having problems with for recording and export. I wouldn't try 48k again, if I were you. first, do you have your onboard soundcard disabled in the bios? if so, go into bios and re-enable it. then after the drivers load for it, you'll need to go into your windows setup and change from the ECHO to the REALTEK (or whatever soundcard it is). it should be as easy as that. in those screenshots you gave us above, it will have an option for the realtek/onboard soundcard, just click on it and then click on "set as default" nothing in sonar should change - you'd be using sonar for recording, but you should be able to play stuff from WMP using the realtek at the same time, but through different speakers or outputs. The way I have MY system set up is that I have the realtek set up so that I have cables plugged into the output of the realtek, and I run those to 2 inputs on my mixer. so if I want to hear the realtek, I just enable those inputs on the mixer.

I don't remember 'trying' 48000 in the first place. Or any other kHz, for that matter. But yeah, I won't do it again. OK, so if I don't have cables from the realtek to my mixer, I won't be able to hear anything? Cause that's what happened when I configured it that way.
