pdarg, I use FabFour pretty often.  It has some great and very unique sounds, but there are limitations.  Many of the patches would only be useful for special effects, and the drum and bass sounds are pretty sparse.

That said, the Blackbird acoustic guitar is fantastic and I use it a lot for solos, and there are a couple of extremely useful electrics.

I used the Mellotron flutes in an unusual way on the last song I wrote.

Overall, this is absolutely worth the money, but would not be your basic go-to virtual library.

Went on the SampleTekk web site and found "The Big One" which is a Yamaha C7 with 93 samples per recorded note!!! Thirty one each for pedal up, down, and release. Good lord that seems amazing considering you only get 127 different values for velocity from a midi controller! I am guessing that would be pushing the limits of practical precision for a sampled piano.

ampleTank 3

Also, for a wide variety of sounds keep an eye out for the impending SampleTank 3 which, though still unnannounced, is expected along very soon. I expect it to be a huge hit, as long as they don't get carried away with the price.

I got ST2 on one of those stupid deals of the day last year, and while none of the sounds are overly impressive solo'd, I am amazed at how often I use it and how well their stuff just sits in the mix.

Exactly.

I got it for some ridiculous price in a group buy, along with SampleMoog, SampleTron and Sonik Synth. Then I added Miroslav at a big discount when it went on sale, doubling the size of my soft synth collection for about $200 total.

Many of the samples are pretty bad, but at the time I figured if it only got occasional use it would still be worth the money. I started using it as a convenient placeholder, much like I used to use TTS-1, where I'd compose the MIDI parts and then subsequently replace the synth with something better. To my surprise, the more I used SampleTank the more I'd just keep its voices for the final version. Like you say, it just fits well in the mix.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
